Help! Baby temperature at night

Hello! My 3m baby sleeps in my bedroom and when I put her to bed the heating is on at 22 degrees, but during the night the temp drops to 17-19 so I'm worried shes cold. She sleeps in a vest, baby grow and blanket. She has woken quite a lot tonight and is on the cooler side to touch (but not cold) however, I'm concerned that if I put her in a 2.5tog sleeping bag when she goes to bed it'll be too hot for her at that point. Any advice or experience would be very gratefully received!

Hi Ned, it's so difficult isn't it. I used to fret about the temperature all the time! Aside from you waking up to check on her before she does, I don't know what to suggest but you are not alone in finding it tricky!

I think you're overthinking this really. Have you looked at the baby centre tog rating guidelines? www.babycentre.co.uk/a25024140/what-should-my-baby-wear-at-night-infographic?utm_campaign=night&utm_source=fb&utm_medium=social
I follow this for my 10 week old. He's usually in a sleeosuit and 2.5 tog. I would turn down your radiator so the room is around 20' initially and then the temp drop doesnt feel so big. Sleeping bags definitely the way to go here, especially as it does get colder.

16-20c is the recommended room temp for babies.

22 is very hot as a night temp for baby. Its supposed to be 16-18°.

I'd suggest 2.5 tog sleeping bag and baby grow.

As others have said, 22 is a bit warm really, I would change the heating then you can go for either vest, sleep suit and 1 tog or sleep suit and 2.5 tog. Sleeping bags are much easier than blankets and will keep her cosier. If you keep the heating at 22 it’s not safe to put extra layers on her and you will have to layer up/change sleeping bag when the temp drops in the night.

My 19 month olds bedroom is 18-21C and we put him in a vest, baby grow and 1 tog sleeping bag and hes been fine.
We keep his radiator on 2-3 and only have the heating on a bit in the day to keep the house temp between 19-21C if it drops to 17C in his room he wakes up crying cause hes cold.

My son has never had a 2.5tog sleeping bag as they are too hot for the room temp we have in our house. Anything above 22C we use .5 tog sleeping bag with recommended clothing.

Thank you everyone. I turned the radiator down and she slept in a baby grow and 2.5tog bag last night. Not sure if it helped tbh as she had a baaaaad night sleep wise, but tbf I was absolutely freezing in the night too. She felt warm, but her hands were like ice (I know that's not a measure of how cold she is). Hopefully tonight is a better night!

Babies hands usually are very cold in the night. It does not mean baby is cold. Its simple schematics - baby doesn't have control over their body to put hands under the duvet or pillow in the way you do. So they get cold.

You can get sleep suits with built in mittens if baby having cold hands bothers you. But bear in mind it's you this is bothering, not baby. Babies just do have cold hands in the night.

If you have a bad night, there are a million other causes for this. Room temperature being cold is one of the least likely.
