DS has climbed out of the cot for the 4th time tonight - do you just ride it out or is there something I can do?

He discovered he could climb out a few days ago (very scary him suddenly appearing in the living room!) and has climbed out about once every nap and bedtime, but tonight he will not stay in at all even though I know he is tired. DO you just keep putting them back in or is there some magic trick? Shall I put him straight back in or leave it a while? It's been going on for about 2 hours now.

How old is he? Is he old enough to go into a cot?

LadyOfWassail · 11/12/2007 21:34

20m

Move him to a bed??
Then they get out of that too and you have to stand outside the bedroom for hours and days on end putting them back in that instead. Gah! Just remembered the nightmare that was getting dd1 to stay in a bed when we moved house.

can't yet as his room has no heating (installed in New Year) and his cot is right next to our bed... DH has put him down for about the 10th time now.

Sorry. Not very helpful.
We got her to stay in bed eventually by letting her have a CD story on that went off if she messed about. She was a lot older though. Sorry. Sure someone else will be along. I think they do say to move to a bed when they have learnt to climb out of a cot though for the ususal 'safety' reasons

[fsmile} he just lands on our bed at the moment. I think we will have to just get him a plug in heater, a cot bed and a stair gate for the door sooner rather than later then. I think he has gone down now, DH just stood outside the door and carried him back in each time - thank god he isn't working nights for a while!

He will eventually get bored and fall asleep. I promise. But totally sympathise I thought I was going to go mad dealing with dd1. Was so depressing spending our whole evening taking it in turns to stand on the landing . Sure it won't be that bad for you though. Is he in a grobag? Would that stop him?

ChasingSquirrelsUpTheXmasTree · 11/12/2007 21:42

you can just put his cot mattress on the floor (where his cot is) if you are worried about him falling when climbing out - it won't solve the getting up problem though - sorry.

x-posts with falling onto your bed

LadyOfWassail · 11/12/2007 21:53

No growbag... I think I will just have to keep putting him back in, thanks
