ds is 9 months, and has always slept on his back, tucked in. have tried not tucking him in so much, so he can get in different postions, but he just ends up crying on his hands and knees, and doesn't lie back down. thought that if he could get himself in any position, he may sleep better??! any thoughts?

Hope this works this time. I am having trouble posting right now. I was going to say that all my children slept better on their fronts than on their backs and that it is safe to let them do so the moment they can roll over by themselves. HTH

thought he may be more comfortable on his front, but, he just seems to get in a pickle, and just stays in the crawling position crying!

Mine all slept in the crawling position, as opposed to flat on their tummies. But if yours is crying, maybe that doesn't feel right for him.

My dd eventually graduated to sleeping on her knees with her bum in the air. Perhaps your ds is getting into a pickle because he is no longer tucked in and cosy etc - have you tried a sleeping bag? That way they can roam all over the cot and get into all sorts of positions yet still stay warm and cosy.

Sleeping on kness with bum in air exactly describes how my children slept. Like a Muslim in prayer.

thanks for replies, he is still in his summer sleeping bag, but then tucked in with a blanket, (just used a sheet in summer) as he does seem to need "tucking in" to go to sleep. so should i keep trying to let him move about(in a warmer sleeping bag), and see if he gets the hang of lying back down to go to sleep?
