Newborn sleep

DS is almost 4 weeks. First 2 and half weeks he slept 3 and a half to 4 hours, woke up for a bottle then fell asleep himself in our arms. We then put him down and he stayed asleep.

At 2 and a half weeks he started waking every 2 to 2 and a half hours needing a bottle. Drinking 70-120mls at a time but still falling asleep himself and going down no bother.

The last 4 days he isn't falling asleep himself, is barely sleeping during the day other than half hour naps here and there. Not a big deal during the day.

At his last feed at 11pm it takes 20-30 mins to rock, shush him to sleep and I can put him down without waking.

During the night he just wont fall asleep in mine or DHs arms. Tried putting him down awake but sleepy but he starts making noises and frantically waving his arms about then ends up crying.

Last night he was crying an hour after DH fed him. I got up and he didn't need fed or changed. As soon as I picked him up and put him in his bouncy chair he stopped.

He hates his arm being swaddled which results in immediate screaming, crying and wriggling about. White noise worked but seems to have no effect anymore.

Is this normal? Should I put him down sleeping or try settle him once he's lying down?

Could it possibly be colic or reflux if he's better being held upright. I had to keep my daughter upright for 30min after a feed, even over night, so I'd lay her on me, head by shoulder, patting her bum, and transfer her after that.

Sounds like reflux if he was happier sitting upright.

Like PP it sounds like colic or reflux.
The other thing it may be is a growth spurt! During these my LO wont settle and needs a lot more milk than usual! They normally stop after a few days but can be really hard work!

He was bringing up some milk when he was a week old. The midwife told me to feed him upright and keep him upright for a few minutes after which I've been doing and he's stopped bringing up milk. I'll need to try keeping him upright for longer, he does like being in that position @gmailconfusion2

@cantgetausername87 I do notice a difference in his length and weight so could be a growth spurt
