Sleeping in cot

Hi guys, I have a 6 month year only who currently sleeps in a co-sleeper cot next to our bed. I want to start to transition him to sleep in his cot in his own room and have started to try and get him to nap in there. However whenever I put him down in his cot he just screams until I take him out. I have tried leaving him in there but after 40 minutes of screaming by heart couldn’t just leave him there.

Does anyone have any tips for trying to get him to sleep in his own room?

Thanks in advance.

Sadly I can't offer any advice. But following as I'm in the same position.

Have you tried putting your pillows in there? It has your smell in. I didn't think it would help and forgot one night and she wouldn't settle for over 40mins. every morning I get my pillows and pop them in her cot. Other then that sorry no advice as she transition quite well. I did wait till she was almost 7 month old x x

Good luck 🤞 let me know how it goes. Also I'm sure you have but we have a routine of pjs and sleepsuit downstairs, and sits with daddy on sofa for 10 mins, daddy brings lo up. Im all in her room. I sing to her 🙄 🤦🏼‍♀️ 😂 for about 5 mins and then pop her in. We do the same every evening, no differing unless one of us is out x

We put the big cot beside our bed, then across the room, then into her own room over a period of about 3-4 weeks. Obvs only possible if you have the space.

Alternatively maybe try lying beside the cot in his room and move gradually away? It sounds like a lot of change to happen at once.

PS if putting your pillows in, obvs take them
out before the baby goes in there - really dangerous otherwise!

@jujujuly oh yes definitely. I'm too scared to leave anything in her cot like some people do. Literally it's her sleep sack and full of dummys x x

I would swap your side sleeper crib for the full sized cot next to your bed. Remove a chest of drawers to fit it in, if needs be.

You can remove one side off most cots up make a sidecar cot. (See image).

Then get baby used to the larger space first. Then put side on but keep it next to your bed. Then push cot away from your bed. Then put cot at other end of your bed. Then finally move to own room.
