Moses Basket or Bedside Crib?

Looking for some advice from those who've been here!

We have bought a cot bed for our first child (expected in November) but it's too big for our room so will be mainly used for daytime naps until she moves into her own room when a bit older.

I'm planning to try and BF and also express so my husband can do some feeds. I wondered if a bedside crib is a good investment to help with this? We've obviously already forked out for the cot bed so another expensive-ish crib is a bit of a stretch.

How did any of you get on with a moses basket next to the bed? I'm not keen on the idea of co-sleeping although I know I might change my mind when faced with sleep deprivation later on!

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and input

Similar to you I had a cotbed for DS1 and used a Moses basket when he was born. I ended up having to switch to a crib when he was 3 months old as he was too tall for the basket but I didn't want to move him into his own room.
I would suggest a next to me crib is better as they are a bit bigger so will last longer.

We’ve got a bedside crib and I love being able to see DD and scoop her out for feeds without having to get out of bed.
However, I will say I’ve ended up buying a separate bed for downstairs as she had nothing to sleep in, which they do a lot. Pros to a Moses basket is it’s portable

Baby needs to have all sleeps with you for the first 6 months so if you really can’t fit the big cot in your room then make sure you get something that will last that long. I would avoid a moses basket as they will last an average sized baby only about 3-4 months. Next to me crib is a good idea as they’re a bit bigger. For naps I mostly used the pram in the living room.

How did people find getting the baby out of a moses basket for a night feed and then putting them back in? Did it cause problems with them settling?

I brought a second hand bedside crib and just brought a new mattress - saves a bit of cash, and as babies grow out of them so quickly, the second hand ones are just like new. I would go for the bedside crib above a Moses basket as you’ll get lots more use out of it, especially if you’re planning on BF. We have only just had to move our 7-month old DD into her cot bed as she finally outgrew the crib, so we got a lot of use out of it (we had a snuzpod - got it from Facebook Marketplace for next to nothing). And now our cot bed is strapped to our bed, as DD will not stop her midnight feasts, but that’s a whole other thread!! Shock

My DC1 outgrew his moses market at 11 weeks.

DC2 had a next to me crib which lasted him until six months.

Whether or not they’ll resettle after a feed is so baby dependent no one can tell you how it will be for you! I had mine just in a normal cot in our room; only ever had the one feed overnight but always went back down fine afterwards.

Had a Moses basket for DC1 and they were hardly in it, always woke on settling.

Trying a snuzpod which was lent to us for DC2, slightly better.

Thanks everyone - seems like the Next to Me type cribs seem to be the best way to go. I'll have a look into the second hand option as suggested.

Had a next to me and a Moses basket. Used the Moses basket so much we bought a second one for downstairs! Ours was 3.5kg at birth, but was so lost in the bedside crib they wouldn’t sleep. The Moses basket was a big hit as they felt more secure. We were lucky enough to be able to put the cot bed in our room, so when too big for the Moses, they went into the next to me for a bit, but it was silly having two cots so went into the cotbed and had an 11hr sleep on the first night!!! I wouldn’t bother with a next to me again, used it a couple of times travelling but it’s a bit bulky so going to get a travel cot. We had stands for the Moses baskets so didn’t hurt my back or disrupt sleep as it was bed height.
