I need a bed for my LO - what shall I get? Needs to be low

My LO (21 months) does not sleep very well . He is extremely wriggly and I need to get in bed with him to help him go to sleep most nights. He is currently in our bed.

He has not been in his cot for about 6 months, he has been in bed with us. I want to get a bed for him but I don't want one of those little toddler beds as I need to be able to get in it with him so that I can settle him. I want a full size single that is really low to the ground as he is so wriggly and I don't want him to hurt himself falling out. I want the bed to be able to take my weight as well as his when necessary. Can anyone recommend a bed? I have never had an IKEA bed, but they look like they are lower than usual - anyone got one?

I am thinking of putting a single mattress just on the floor for him, but my mum says that it is best to try and get him into some kind of "normal" bed.

dd went straight into an ikea bed at this age. i got it off freecycle. don't worry about teh height thing. if you are really worried about him falling out just get a bed guard.

Yes Ikea have a lovely strong low grey metal framed bed.

I would just get a normal single bed. DS1 was a total wriggler in his cot( would end up sleeping widthways, pressed against the edges) but I got a normal single anyway - i think he fell out twice (but there were cushions on the floor so he just got a fright). And the great thing is that the bed will be reusable forever, and he won't outgrow it.

We got the IKEA Kritter bed (about £40) for DS about 2 months ago (when he was about 24 months). It's nice and low, so he can get in/out on his own, and has a low integral bed rail just along the top third, which stops him wiggling out in his sleep (and he's a big wiggler). He loves it , and hasn't fallen out once!!

My DSs have Vikare beds from Ikea. I get into DS1's with him to read him stories and it still has both ends up. DS2 isn't in his yet () as he's too boingy.

I love the Vikare bed because the ends can be used for drink/nightlight/cars etc when they're up, but it'll still be a full size single one day. Mattress seems fine too, even though it's foam.
