Hi ds is currently 10 weeks and suffers from trapped wind that keeps me awake all night. We have good and bad nights but after a week of hood nights we are having a week of bad nights. I am bf so at least he can comfort suck unti he shifts the wind but I am getting to the end of my tether. He has been suffering since birth and was the only newborn who screamed from 12 - 5 am the first night in hospital LOL. Have tried most of the remides apart from colief as its a bit pricey and if it doesn't work I'll be really peed off. So please tell me when I can expect some improvement and has anyone ever died from lack of sleep? Dramatic I know but I feel sorry for myself today.

FlaminSnowball - sorry for your bad nights and hope things improve soon. If it makes you feel any better DS managed a 4 hour screamathon from 4am - 8am when he was first born.

Colief is expensive but may be worth a go. You can get it on prescription according to the Colief website so have a chat with your doc. I also know of someone in RL who used a cranial osteopath for their son's wind problem - turned out there was something slightly wrong with his diaphragm which prevented him bringing up wind. For a slightly cheaper solution there are various positions (e.g.bicycling legs, tiger in tree) to bring up wind which you can try - others should be able to advise better than me.

Good luck

Flamin Snowball - I can sympathise. My DD seemed to sleep well at nine weeks then at 10/11 weeks everything changed again and she now wakes a few times in the night and will only re-settle with bf. In the early days I thought she may have been suffering from trapped wind so bought colief but never actually used it as looking back I don't think she was suffering from wind at all, I just wanted a solution to her refusing to settle. Does your DS suffer with it in the day as well or just at night - does he wind at all after a feed?

Also, I know 2 people who used colief and both swear by it!? You can get in on presciption also.

Also, I don't think you can die from lack of sleep

thanks for your replies. I ha e just popped out a d bought colief. He does suffer during the day too. When I put his kneesvto his chest we get lots of wind of the bottom variety. He is worse over night though. I was wondering if it is possibly my diet. I'm lucky as when we have a good b
night he wakes for a feed and I can put him back down awake and he goes straight back to sleep by himself. He definately seems to have wind pain as you can feel it moving around at the same time he screams out in pain.

If you think its your diet then have a good think about what you have on the days its bad. Don't assume its dairy (though it may be). I decided that for DS it was probably tea and mango which caused the worst colic reactions. I'm now back on tea (DS 5 months now) but daren't try a mango. Chilli didn't go down too well either . Remember though, it may be nothing to do with your diet.
