Best sleep bag for a winter newborn?

I am a first time mum and know nothing about bedding etc

From what I’ve read sleeping bags/sacks seem to be safest, as the baby can pull blankets over their face. I’ve seen the “Love to Dream Swaddle Up” bag which looks great for newborns but it only comes in TOG 1.0 which I don’t think will be warm enough seeing as my baby is going to be born in November and our flat is quite cold.

Can anyone recommend what I should buy?

Thanks x

Have a look at the Grosnug range (I think bought our by Tommee Tippe now) you can use them from really early on and you can do arms in or out to suit. They do 1.0 tog and 2.5 tog, I can't ever remember thinking we needed to go any higher tog than that (some places do sell them) because there's always the option of sticking a vest underneath the sleepsuit and so on. They come with a handy guide about what to wear underneath at different room temps too, we got a Groegg so we didn't have to think/decide/argue too much about what to dress our PFB DD in 😂

We had a mammas & papas one and a John, both good because they had an extra set of poppers in the arm holes so you could make them smaller for a newborn.
We found that ones without extra poppers were loose enough that they could hypothetically be pulled over the baby’s head even when done up.

*that should say John Lewis one

I really don't think there is much difference with any of them. Mine were bagged up in a mix of supermarket and second hand Gro ones until about 3. The winter baby hated it to begin with though, so the 0-3 month ones were barely used and had to do tiny blankets in moses basket.

I had a small baby so we couldn't use supermarket ones til she was about 4 months, maybe a bit more, as I was worried about the risk of them going over her head too. But once she was big enough the supermarket ones were just as good, I agree! She did have a JoJo one that I got in the sale but I found that she got too long for that way before she got too long for the supermarket ones in the same age bracket so I wouldn't have another one of those!

The Swaddle Up definitely comes in 2.5 tog, we had one in small. Try eBay or look around the internet.

Another vote for the Grosnug (or whatever tommee tippee are calling them since they bought them up) - fab to be able to choose arms in or out. I had one DC who loved to be swaddled and another who loathed it. We used them from pretty much newborn.

Ebay is great for sleeping bags if you are ok with second hand, as they are generally very expensive new and the smaller sizes don't fit for long so the send hand ones are often hardly worn.

Merino kids - merino wool is the best for little ones and these are absolutely gorgeous x
