16 month old moaning in sleep

My 16 month old has been moaning every 20-30 minutes from 2am onwards for about 10 days now.

She has just cut 3 new teeth (2 top, 1 bottom) then she slept through for 2 nights but back to moaning all night again last night - normally they don’t bother her this much.

She is learning to walk currently, took her first steps at 15 months but is still cautious and can only walk for about 10 seconds before falling. Could it be this?

Teeth cut in groups of four (two pairs - top and bottom). So the logical and most likely reason is that final bottom molar cutting.

Learning to walk doesn't cause this type of waking, usually. It's more that you go through a phase of baby refusing to lie down and constantly pulling to standing when going to sleep, which then causes sleep issues.

Sleep is also lightest in the early mornings. So any issues with settling technique not being independent tends to show itself here. Likewise if lack of calories and/or fluids is an issue with an older baby, you'll usually see that in the form of unsettled early mornings.

@FATEdestiny She’s actually cut teeth in a weird order, she got 3 at the bottom, then top central & top lateral together then she’s just cut the other 2 top and 1 bottom - only has 8 teeth (started teething after 1st birthday).

She self settles and has done since 6 months, has a dummy and comforter. No fighting bedtime or nap, asleep within 10 minutes usually.

Interesting about lack of calories, perhaps this is why as she hasn’t been eating as much due to the teething (but still is on formula as cows milk gave her belly ache and has about 18oz a day when not eating as much).

But thanks for the reply - will try see if I can get more calories into her somehow to see if that helps!

Bump..

My now 17 month old is still doing this. Anyone else experienced something similar?

Hi there, just wondering if this resolved itself or you found a solution, as my 15 month old is doing the same! Thank you

Vicky1989x · 14/09/2022 21:54

@Namechange285 it did, I can’t remember when though but it was a combination of teething and her being cold.

Thank you for replying @Vicky1989x I'm glad things improved! We've gone for an extra layer tonight so hoping she's more comfy!
