Co-sleeping / smoking?

My baby is 9 weeks old and I have started co sleeping with him, we both love it and sleep so much better however I am an occasional smoker, I started again after pregnancy as my baby spent his first weeks in NICU due to a blockage in his bowel and I stupidly picked up the cigs again to get me through the nights without him.

Now I’ll have a couple a day but my general rule of the thumb is i will never smoke indoors, it is outdoors only with all windows and doors shut and once I’ve had a shower or bath in the evening I won’t smoke anymore so when I get to bed I am cleaned, teeth are brushed and my clothes / hair etc will have no smoke - I also mouthwash etc etc.

Is anyone else co-sleeping and a smoker? Or can anyone tell me if this is still a big no?

Too many risk factors at play, I'd put the baby in the cot OP.

Best of luck quitting smoking. Have you spoken to your GP about it? You allude to going through a stressful time, it would be much healthier and probably more effective to look at taking antidepressants or anxiety meds to get through the short to medium term, rather than relying on smoking.

@Rugsofhonour she only asked about sleeping, not during the day, which was what I replied to.

As I said, I don't smoke

Don't do it. Smoking is by far the biggest risk factor for cot death. You have to be very careful to minimise the risks when co-sleeping and one of the big things is not smoking and your partner not smoking (another is breastfeeding but that makes only a small difference to cot death risk if the baby is in a separate crib).

It's dangerous. I smoked for years and years so I know it's hard to give up but are your couple of cigarettes a day really worth your babies life?
Either stop smoking or stop co-sleeping.

The same guidance applies to bedside cribs as to co sleeping in regards to smoking. It's the highest know risk factor.
I'm sorry op co-sleeping saved my sanity with all of mine, but smoking in any way and doing it is an absolute no.

@ only up
Smoking will affect the health of the baby a lot, especially his lung. I think you should try stopping smoking
