Leg slamming 3 month old

hi just wondered what reasons may be as to why my 3 month old slams her legs down on the mattress. she constantly has them in the air when changing nappies, napping and bed times. it is rather funny as you see the legs in the air before you hear her wake up in moses basket. she has done this for weeks

Totally normal, both my DCs did this. I think it's a developmental thing, learning how to control their legs is a massive novelty. And when in bed it is apparently a self soothing technique, if I recall correctly. I cant imagine banging my legs down repeatedly would send me off to sleep but maybe I just haven't given it a chance. They grow out of it. My 8 month old currently enjoys rocking backwards and forwards in her hands and knees in her cot these days

My 2yr old still does this and thinks it's great fun. All totally normal and quite sweet to see!

Mine did this too! It's cute. I thought of it as exercise - imagine an adult being bedbound, they would need physio to build the strength up to walk. Babies thrash their legs about to build up strength and learn how to move. I found it a bit odd being woken for a night feed by the sound of those chunky leggies slamming down, but it's better than crying!

My youngest did this - it was hilarious because she would get SO excited about it.

her eyes are closed as she still does it. i try to think of it that it’s strengthening her stomach muscles lol as she’s isn’t keen on tummy time. it is really cute and funny! thank you

Yep my LO still does this at almost 6 months. Normally does it when she's going sleep, almost a self settling technique I think 🤔 x
