We have just been informed that my 7 week old son as something called laryngomalasia (soft windpipe) which has been causing very noisy breathing, snoring, snorting at night. It’s very scary to listen to, and it makes me check him constantly through the night, my husband keeps telling me I need to try to ignore it, but my body / brain won’t let me. Has anyone else experienced this, and do you have any tips on how to cope with it?

Hi lovely,
Totally understand why this scares you! My nearly 2 wk old makes horrendous noises at night too which terrify me! I watch him sleep (therefore not getting any sleep myself!) my DP is exactly the same so much more chilled and telling me he's okay don't worry!
I've spoken to midwives and healthy visitor about it and they've told me it's normal noises although they sound exactly the same as you have described! But maybe your little ones even louder. Just wanted to message to say I feel your worry!
Is this something your child will always have or is it something that can be sorted as they get older? Xx

I know we haven't had a diagnosis and maybe our little one is okay like they say but I find when he's raised a little when sleeping it helps like when you prop a crib up for reflux but as soon as he's flat the noises return x

Supposedly it should resolve by the time he’s about 1 year old. I have requested a referral to ENT and just spent a small fortune on an oxygen monitor which arrived today so will see how that goes.
