Separation Anxiety Help...

Hello

Wondering if anyone on here can help.

My DD is 8, the summer holidays always throws her off by being out of routine but this summer she is really suffering with separation anxiety.

She constantly wakes throughout the night & I have to sit in her room till she falls asleep.

She is getting next to nothing sleep (as am I) but I just don't know how to try & put a stop to it.

I'm questioned for my every move. I'm followed everywhere around the house, she stands outside the bathroom door when I need the loo & so on!

She has a full on meltdown if she walks into a room when I'm not there.

If anyone has any ideas that I can try to help, I would be extremely grateful.

Hello OP,
... I’ve read your post; that’s really exhausting for you and DC , and given her age needs to be resolved soon before adolescence - this past year has been such a difficult time for children with anxiety;💐 I think from your description you would be best to seek professional guidance about parenting strategies to manage her anxiety so that it’s not impacting on your family life and her mental health in such a big way - it’s a common issue now for families given the impact of the lockdown. Your gp or school can refer to specialist services for children with anxiety but there could be a waiting list.
The quicker alternative for your situation would be for you to find a child counsellor privately who can offer you have a few sessions with just yourself initially to advise you on parenting strategies and issues for anxious children. You’ll find it really helpful and supportive xx
