Grunting at night

We are having trouble with dd going into her crib at night. She is 11 weeks tomorrow (born 2 weeks early) and as soon as she is on her back in the crib she grunts a lot and flails around and is pulling her knees up until she eventually wakes herself up crying. Any ideas what this could be due to and is there anything we can do to help her? She doesnt necessarily seem in pain but maybe I'm discomfort. I end up having to get her out and have her sleep on me which is not ideal as I'm not able to sleep at night. Thank you

The majority of newborns do this.

A swaddle will help calm her flaying limbs.
A dummy will quiet the noise

Is she ok when on her side or belly?

Could possibly be wind or reflux. Especially if she is pulling her knees up.

However babies are notoriously (and surprisingly) loud sleepers. It’s also very normal for their limbs to go all over the place.

Lastly, it is completely normal for babies (and even older children) to be happier and sleep better either on or next to you.

DS was, and is still at 3.5 months a very noisy sleeper. At first he was snorting and grunting what felt like almost constantly and now he's moved on to growling in his sleep and occasionally gagging when he's too enthusiastic with his finger/thumb sucking. It tends d to be in the lighter phases of sleep, when he's really 'gone' he's totally silent. It's completely normal and I think quite amusing, although roll on 6 months so he can be noisy in his own room.

My daughter did this and it turned out to be from a cows milk allergy even tho I breastfed. Once I cut out dairy from my diet she was a much quieter sleeper and happy baby
