DD is 13 months. It took us a long time to get her to sleep at night, but now she does reliably. She will sleep in the day, if she is in the pushchair/carseat. We decided to get her to sleep in the day in her cot. I put her down and she was fine in there, now she's calling for me and sounds upset.
What do I do? We had to use CC to get her to sleep in the cot at night, do I need to let her cry a bit? I hate hearing her upset!

I use a radio in my dd's room for daytime sleeps. I keep it on low and I close the curtains etc. Sometimes she will cry but it's only for a minute or so and then she goes off to sleep. If she's not used to it she prob will be upset. If she's happy in her pushchair why don't you just let her sleep in that? Or would it mean that you would have to take her for a walk?

MTM We had the same trouble, CC to work out night time which worked, but it didn't immediately carry over to the day.

We just used the controlled crying technique again, but the gentler version, i.e. went in, no eye contact, no noise, layed DS down, patted back a couple of times, left. V. boring, and we took longer and longer to arrive. It worked over a couple of weeks, so my advice is be strong - hang in there - it's awful but once it's cracked you will have a happier better-slept little girl.

good luck, and because I know EXACTLY how hard it is, and i know it's not for everyone but being a little bit stern saved my sanity! xxx

Thank you for the advice. We had prioritised sleeping at night (for obvious reasons!) and even with a good routine she would get very upset. She would also move her 5am feed earlier and earlier, bit by bit until I was feeding at 2am and 5am. So I am very reluctant to mess up nighttime sleep!
However, I'm due to start fertility treatment early next year. My last pregnancy was technically healthy, but I had 9-month fatigue and nausea and fainting spells, so it would be very difficult to stomp around with the pushchair everyday (yes, it needs to be moving). Not to mention what would happen when (if) I had a newborn!
I have tried the gentler methods at night, but a shush-pat seems to "restart" the crying from the beginning, if you see what I mean. Is there any hope?
