Wake windows

Dd is 10 weeks old (born 2 weeks early) and every where I read says her wake windows should be about 1hr to 1hr 45 mins but she is awake for approx 45 mins at a time then naps for a good 2 hours each time. should I be keeping her up longer? if so how because she cries and fusses after about 45 mins. or will her wake times get longer as she gets older?

I think wake windows increase as they get older. My DD was the same, awake for short periods and could sleep up to 2 hours.

Maybe at this stage it would help to look for sleep cues and carry on as you have been rather than stretching out her wake windows if she grumbles & fusses?

But I am no sleep expert.

Wake Windows don't start until after the Fourth Trimester. So around 3-4 months old.

Up until then - baby only wants to be awake for as long as a need is unmet (hunger, wind pain or uncomfortable nappy usually). As soon as all needs are met, baby's passive position is to be asleep and not awake. So you'd usually expect about 20-40 minutes awake in one go, certainly never more than an hour.

All this changes at 4 months. That is when Wake Windows become A Thing.

I believe wake windows increase with age. My DD was also up for brief intervals and could sleep for up to two hours. x trench run
