Poor sleeping child - lack of understanding / empathy

Unsure if anyone will read this,

Have a poor sleeping toddler and constantly tired, effects of this are evident through every part of my life- mood, weight, parenting, work, relationships.

Feel angry and distanced from everyone, no empathy or understanding of the devestating effect of rubbish sleep for a few years.

How can I feel less livid and alone?

It's hell, and as you know there is little you can do... I did find it helped to know others were in the same boat, have you seen the Sleep topic here? There used to be a series of threads for the parents of non-sleepers, and just reading it made things a tiny bit easier.

Also, what about the other parent? Can you take turns to be on call every other night, split the night, anything to carve out a few hours of guaranteed sleep?

This too shall pass, but it's awful, awful, awful.

My DD was the same when she was a toddler. Some --all the days I didn't even know at what point in the day it was! It will get better . For me it was when DD started school and we would put the same CD at bedtime. I cannot tell you how many Disney songs I listened to but every night I left one earlier until finally she slept with just music on. She listens to music now to sleep she says she finds it relaxing. Currently on Taylor Swift (DD is now 8) good luck OP it will get better Flowers

I can help you x

How old is your child?

NameChange74567 · 25/07/2021 23:06

It's awful. I With my 2yo and a 1yo, I find myself up a minimum of 4 times a night. No-one understands/seems to care how hard it is. DH works nightshift so can't help with night wakings. They don't nap at the same time during the day so I never get a break. I'm constantly exhausted and can't be bothered to get ready to even leave the house some days. I have 3dc and it is impossible to find anyone to babysit even for a few hours. Everyone says they're too much hard work.

I forgot to say self care in answer to your question. It may something as simple as getting someone to watch DC when you have a bath or go for a walk (on your own or with a friend) or have a nap then after that hopefully you will feel a bit more like yourself. Also it's good to talk- share your feelings to look after your own Mental and physical health as well as your DC's. Good luck OP

Thanks for your understanding comments, that’s what I need at the moment

@FATEdestiny Thankyou, you have already given me fabulous advise on another thread. Nearly 2 year old, was then ill/ then covid woes/ then he had a small operation/ another operation for my husband/ some trepidation from me etc meant i haven’t started the sleep training plan yet. Have noravirus at the moment and a holiday next week, so all being well with start after then.

It’s the anger/ frustration with other people that I want to stop in the mean time
