Getting baby to settle for someone else?

My LO has just turned 6 months, so most of his life has been in lockdown which in turn has meant me and DP have never been out just us 2, and are planning a meal out in a couple of weeks.

Grandparents will be babysitting and since lockdown have seen him a lot, fed him, etc.

We did a trial run and he just would not go to sleep! He got all worked up and crying and everything until I eventually went in to help (first time trying so I know it can take time as it's completely new to him!) It took me a while just to calm him before he did then settle and drift off. But does anyone have any tips to make it smoother for him? He's still in our room currently where he has slept since birth.

I obviously don't want to go out knowing he won't settle at bedtime, but of course at some point we need others to be able to get him down for sleep as well.

I know it will take time for him to get used to someone else, I'm just after advice on how to make it smoother for him.

I had my baby in first lockdown so completely understand! How does he go to sleep do you rock him or do anything or does he go to sleep on his own?

We worked on independent sleep quite early on and our little girl can be put down as long as it's dark she has her muslin and her sound machine on and she will put herself to sleep. Maybe you could try allowing him to practice self settling? That way you won't have to worry about anyone else settling him? We just keep everything the same routine wise, my little girl goes to sleep fine at her nanny and grandads. Definitely worth a try :)

Try leaving an item of clothing that you've worn so he can still smell you?

We put hm down awake with white noise and he usually rolls around for a bit then drifts off. The GPS tried the same, but I think because it wasn't one of us he just started crying and got all worked up :(

What time does he go to bed? Could you settle him then head out for dinner after?
