And more specifically, do you think they will help a DC realise that 5.15 is not time for breakfast if they're 18 months with very good understanding?

Yes. You just have to be consistent in the beginning with taking them back to bed and saying"the sun's not up yet. You have to stay in bed until the sun is up" pointing to the clock.

It worked with mine from about that age.

Caramellatteplease · 03/07/2021 06:09

Both mine very quickly worked out how to reprogram them so they never worked for mine. 🤯🙄🤣

Ravenspeckingontheroof · 03/07/2021 06:26

Never worked for mine

Absolutely brilliant for my 2. Still using them at age 9. It provides rules and boundaries but you have to back them up. You can lock the screen and buttons.

Golden2021 · 03/07/2021 06:44

I think it's hard for them at this time of year when it's light all the time.

If your child can understand commands and explanations, yes. We introduced it to our DC at 18 months and it worked brilliantly but you have to be 100% consistent. If they get up before the sun shows, make sure there's no real interaction just a simple 'The sun isn't up so it's still nighttime' and take them back to bed. Even if it's only 5 minutes before the set time, they need a clear boundary of when they get up and when they stay in bed. Give lots of praise when they stay in bed until the sun comes up.

Get decent blackout blinds / curtains.

It's the bloody birds!

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 03/07/2021 06:54

I would think that's a little young, but in your shoes I'd give it a go!

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 03/07/2021 07:50

My 4yo still thinks 5:30 is morning Confused He stays in bed waiting for his clock, but hums!

moonlight1705 · 03/07/2021 08:07

My 2.5 year old wakes up about 40 minutes before the sun comes up. When I go in then she has turned the clock back to the sun picture and tells me 'sun up, me up'

FATEdestiny · 03/07/2021 09:45

I think it's too young.

DC needs to properly understand the passage of time to get it. While they might understand "Don't get up until the sun is up on the clock". They will have absolutely no comprehension if they will be waiting 5 minutes, 50 minutes or 5 hours.

greensnail · 03/07/2021 09:51

It worked for mine at that age. If they were getting up at 5.15 when we started then we set it for maybe 5.30 to start with and then gradually moved it later so they could get used to it.

NuffSaidSam · 03/07/2021 09:58

There's no harm in trying.

Be consistent. Set it just a bit later than he currently wakes and move it slowly as he gets the hang of it. Keep the clock out of his reach so he can see it, but can't change the time on it.
