If you used a sleep guide/book/plan with your newborn, which one?

Didn't use one with my first which resulted in endless sleepless nights and short naps. But feel overwhelmed there are so many to choose from!

If you used one and it worked which one?

Thank you

My four were all Gina babies and it was fab - I absolutely loved her book (read as a guide rather than as a prescription) - she was a Godsend to a new mum with no mum friends and friends who went on to have children also found her really useful. (But people on MN hate her).

Did you follow her guides from day one and also did you follow her timings to the letter (number)? Do you have to stick to it rigidly for it to work? And does it work every time? I'm definitely not opposed to Gina if she gives me sleep!

As above and used it as a guide started mid way through the first week with PFB DS and it would like an absolute dream. I could predict his sleep and awake times. We were able to go out for meals on a lunch time knowing DS would sleep right through etc.

However, with DD a year later she was having non of it.

Gina Ford here too. The baby and toddler one is better I think as it gives you ways of flexing the routines, which can be quite rigid, to suit the family. We follow it loosely! The only part I really ignore is that she’s quite anti dummies but DC2 has one (DC1 is a thumb sucker). I’m not sure I would have managed without the sucking to settle. But otherwise I think she’s very good.

I don't think she starts from day one but it's all about guiding to rather than fixed expectations. It gave a really useful reset for when things went pear shaped.
