this is pretty much the baby whisperer routine - EASY = eat, activity, sleep, you time

cargirl, did you do the sleep bit about having them on their side and patting them?

I used the patting method with DS1. It worked well in that he learnt to sleep in his cot and for longer than 2 hours, but he still woke in the night and needed to be patted to get back to sleep again. When he was 11 moths old he was waking for up to 2 hours so I had to do cc to break the patting habit. The cc was really easy though and the longest he cried for was 6 minutes. Since then he has on the whole been a very good sleeper.
With DD I encouraged her to settle herself and she slept through from 6 months.
Just to prove that I don't possess all the answers DS2 came along, can settle himself (most nights) and wakes approx. every 3 hours!!!

We started by my dh rocking her in her arms with me hissing "don't let her fall asleep" and just as she looked as if she would drop off he put her in her cot. Gradually she was able to go in her cot more and more awake. TBH I think I was very lucky with her but I am perservering with DS2 because I think it will be worth it in the long run.

with my youngest I started at 4 days old teaching her to go to sleep in her cot by herself! I knew she was tired and she wanted to be cuddled to sleep (she is the youngest of 4 and I have a dodgy back so that wasn't an option!) I put her in the cot awake - she cried, I picked her up and cuddled her util she was content, I put her down in the cot, she cried, I picked her up and cuddled her until she was content and so on I think it probably only took 48 hours max and she was happy to go to sleep by herself in her cot. I bf but only rarely let her go to sleep on the boob - like if we were out and about and she'd gone past tired to exhausted. HTH
