8.5 month old waking at 5-5.30am!

Hi all I need help! My 8.5 month old has been waking at 5-5.30am for weeks. It's exhausting ! We've tried blackout blinds, cry it out, and offering a feed. Most of the time he won't go back to sleep even though I get the impression he needs more - he's usually ready for a nap by 8am and will often nap for 90mins. He has another nap about 1.30pm for an hr. How can we correct this , its tiring !! Xx

My 7 year old still wakes up at 5:30 regardless of bedtime!! At least she knows to stay in her room and play quietly now. My 5 year old is the complete opposite, he'll sleep til at least 8:00, sometimes later. Both had the same routine from being baby's. I just accept it's nature and make sure I get an early night myself.

Hes taking 4 x 6oz bottles at about 6am, 11am, 3pm, and 6.30pm. 3 meals in between at 7am, 12.30pm and 4.30pm usually @BeHappyAndSmile.

Maybe I could give him more at bed time? Maybe it's just a habit thing and once he starts going down for the morning nap later he will gradually start waking later ? Xx

There are two ways to attack this.
You can either accept the 5am wake ups, go to bed early and get up early, or you can try and change the rhythm of your childs day by pushing bed time, naps and food and hope that wake time follows.
Personally, we failed to shift our childs day, and so did early bed and early mornings for years.

If he finishes each bottle I'd be tempted to add an extra Oz to each and see if that gives him enough through the day to help. We always make the last bottle a bit bigger as well although he rarely finishes it before falling asleep. Or squeeze an extra bottle in somewhere if he won't take more in one go? And make sure the room is dark. We stuck black card to the window which helped a bit too.

Also it takes at least a week of trying to know if it'll work because babies are little terrorists who dislike change and like to make you as tired as possible Grin

I dont mind if 10 hrs is normal for him, in which case I'd happily put him to bed later to get a later wake, but I think he's waking before he's fully rested because he is often upset and wants a very long morning nap so soon.

So the last two mornings he's woken at 5.30 but after a bite and some wriggling, he's managed to go back down for another 60-90 mins allowing a later morning nap so we are going to stick with it and see if we can shift his body clock ! Xxx

My baby is 8 months & 1 week and wakes between 5-5.30am occasionally before 5 - ahhhh and occasionally close to 6am! Yay!
But she goes down at 6.30 and sleeps through to then so I can’t complain I think it’s a very normal wake up time for the age.
She has three naps though - first similar to
Your baby but another one around 11.30ish and again at around 3 both of the second ones are 40mins ish it sounds like maybe you could put another nap in as I think overtiredness can be linked to early waking and the second awake window seems quite long.
