How to settle baby after night feed

Hello

Is there any way to settle my baby after his night feed? (Bottle).

He's got silent reflux so I can't rock him too much. Also this means I have to hold him upright for 30mins after his feed so feeds are taking around 1 hour and then he's wide awake 😣

I've been cuddling him, gently walking round the room shhhing, tried a dummy too. Put him back in his cot but he's coughing and grunting and won't settle.

He's only 4.5 weeks.

Do you have cot raised slightly? It's great for refluxy babies? Also I'd recommend swaddling for any babies, it keeps them so calm x

Could you feed him to sleep then prop him upright on your knees in bed - would he stay asleep that way? If you have a next to me style crib then you can slide him over after he’s been upright long enough. That’s what we did with my refluxy baby. Hang in there, it’s horrible but it passed for us around 3 months and now night feeds are much quicker and easier x

@EmmaInParis thank you. Yes I do that when I can but sometimes he doesn't fall asleep because the feed stresses him out due to the reflux and then he's really wired for ages and ends up crying, then screaming. Wouldn't be as bad but it's wakes my toddler who is a total over tired mess! Ended up taking him out for a walk in the sling at 4am today. 😩

@ballyboy thanks. I do have the crib tilted yes. It's just a very hard time!

Sucking helps reflux babies. Keep going with the dummy.

Also a swaddle is close to essential to calm a distressed newborn.

We had this with our DD, best thing we ever done was change her bottles to the Dr Brown bottles! They have been like a lifesaver for us and for her. She is a lot more settled after every feed, burps better, doesn’t pull her legs, isn’t sick and relaxes when feeding.

Thank you @FATEdestiny how old was she when you did this?

@Mazzatron we changed her bottles at 2 weeks, we had the MAM bottles and it was awful, she was sick all the time, trapped wind, silent reflux and generally not a happy baby during feeding or after.
I wouldn’t look back now, she is a different baby and has been from the day we changed bottles! We can now feed, burp and straight down. Whereas before we had to hold her for 30/40minutes before putting her down etc.
