Please can i have some advice on how to help my 11 week old boy sleep better??
He grunts and kicks around most of the night!
I am finding it hard to function in the day due to no sleep.
I havent used a swaddle before and feel its too late to be introducing this?
Is it too soon to be having him in his own cot in rhe nursery?
Any advice would be appreciated Smile

Is he waking or disturbing you?
I think too young to be in his own room as the guideline is 6 months.

Babies can be noisy sleepers I’m afraid! My first used to fidget like crazy & id lie there half asleep wondering if she was waking & I’d need to get up! Only suggestion is to move the crib a bit further away from your bed if it’s disturbing you too much. Otherwise I’m afraid you’ll need to wait until 6 months until they’ve moved to their own room

Could you try some pink noise like rainfall or something? I don't know if you can sleep with something like nature sounds quietly playing in the background but it might mean you're less startled by his grunts and kicks.

Like pp said, a swaddle might help. Have you also checked he's been properly winded before falling asleep? The grunting might be a sign of wind.

Hopefully it's just a short phase. I hope you get some well deserved rest soon.

Thankyou both!
Hes winded and then asleep on the shoulder for a good 15-20 minutes after before being put back down.
I think il have to go and buy some ear plugs to try and blank it out!
When he first came home with is, we used a snuz cloud but became very reliant on white noise to go to sleep and remain asleep! So we gave started to ween him off that and get ised to sleeping in silence. This has been a good week and a half now.
I thibk we just have a very restless sleeper and fingers crossed it gets easier! X

It does get better as they get bigger, my ds used to sound like an angry goat! Can I ask why you want to wean him off white noise? It’s a really useful tool, especially when he’s bigger and you’re putting him to bed in his own room and then you’re going downstairs - babies sleep gets lighter as they get older so white noise stops things disturbing them.

Ear plugs. Should block out most of the noise but you'll still be woken by crying. Baby will probably grow out of it soon.

Maybe try a sound machine. Not only did it make my bubs sleep better it blocked out my husbands snoring! We still have her in our room, but I will definitely be buying myself a sound machine when she takes hers in her own room!
My LO was very noisy in the early days too but they soon grow out of it.

StClairStreet · 25/05/2021 23:26

They do grow out of the noisy sleep eventually. It’s too soon for him to be in his own room but I second the suggestion of earplugs - they saved my sanity.

iusedtoloveopalfruits1 · 25/05/2021 23:54

why did you wean him off the white noise when clearly it was working! I’d stick with it it’s not doing him any harm.

Thankyou all!! Iv read tht its bad for babies if they become too reliant? I thought 11 weeks is still young but according to different websites it says to try and let your baby sleep in silence and to adapt to it.
Its a mind field out there of different opinions!!!
