Co sleeping

What do people do when co sleeping and baby can crawl? He's 8 months now and can crawl so when he wakes up he's trying to crawl off. Im a light sleeper so always wake up anyway if I hear a noise or anything but starting to think maybe its not safe now to co sleep. He wakes so much in his cot though but the most important thing is that he's safe so if he has to go back in the cot and we wake up a few times a night then thats what I will do. Anyone got any advice please.

We put our mattress on the floor on top of the floor slats. Some people use bed rails but haven’t used them personally.

I have bed rails around the adult bed with his cot between the wall and open side of the bed. There is a small gap for us to get in and out so I have a pillow on the floor there in case he slips out! But our bed isn’t very high at all

We have ordered 2 bed rails cos we would need them anyway for when hes in his own bed as a toddler. Id imagine they only stop them rolling out though he will probably try an climb over them lol xx

You can teach safely getting off the bed, from as soon as baby can crawl. Teach him to crawl backwards to the end of the bed (never forwards), then dangle legs over the side of the bed but keeping torso/arms on bed. Then dangle and drop feet first.

I appreciate this isn't a method to keep baby penned onto the bed. But it is perfectly reasonable for baby to learn how to safely get off the bed as soon as they can crawl. Practice in the daytime with baby getting off the sofa independantly using the same method.

I would say as above, teach to get off bed safely as well as those sides will just stop them rolling off when asleep, not them climbing over when awake.

I co sleep with 12 month old sometimes after he wakes at 4/5am. He just turns around on stomach and slides off the bed until his feet touch the floor (it’s pretty high). He’s been doing that quite well a few months so your prob almost at that point

Thanks so much didn’t even think of trying to teach him that.
