Baby is now 4 months and wakes every 30mins to 1 hour. He has to be fed to sleep again as nothing else works. I’ve tried a dummy he spits it out. Also, he has cradle cap and he keeps scratching his head vigorously. I believe this is contributing to him waking up multiple times a night. I also find he is now difficult to put down. I could put him down in his cot before, but over the padt week he only had wants to sleep on me foe naps and will sleep next to me at night.

Cradle cap isn't itchy, but eczema is and it could be that. I would suggest a trip to the doctors because eczema is treatable to reduce the discomfort and also it is linked to food allergies.

The 4 month sleep regression nearly broke me with both DC! It didn't if that helps but you have my absolute sympathy.

I would go the GP about the itching because anything at all you can do is worth it. If it helps it passes I swear but I have deep abiding memories of 4 month sleep regression. Not good ones.

I once met someone who insisted it was a myth. The mums around her nearly fell over laughing. My two both did it. Go to the GP , do everything you can but I promise it settles eventually.

Definitely this. Both mine had cradle cap but never scratched.

Welcome to the 4 month sleep regression. I’m sorry. It’s truly shit but totally normal. You will get through it.

How is the daytime napping?

mayblossominapril · 17/05/2021 19:32

It does sound like his cradle cap is bothering him. Also keep an eye out for wind, cmpa, reflux and teething

I saw the GP today he just said to just try out different creams and oil. Apparently babies just grow out of cradle cap and eczema.

This suggests your GP thinks it is cradle cap and has not diagnosed eczema. Which is good! It suggests there is nothing medically wrong and you just have a normal 4 month old baby being a normal (difficult) 4 month old.

So back to your OP- your baby is waking frequently. Is this at night or during the day? When and for how long is baby napping in the day.

Are you a new mum? Many new parents substantially under estimate how much help babies need to get to sleep independently. You need to really, REALLY work hard at it.

Some pointers:

  • Keep going with the dummy. Use it consistantly.
  • Movement helps babies nap. Try naps in a bouncy chair or pram, with a dummy.
  • limit awake time in the day. First cry or if baby won't be put down, it's nap time. This may only be 40-60 minutes from waking up.
  • Feed frequently in the daytime. Calorific need increases significantly at 4 months. Aim to feed upon baby waking up (not going to sleep).
