6 week old sleep

Hey all,
My six week old DD is starting to set her own sleep routine.
She's awake most of the evening (7-10) during this time she's feeding constantly, draining one bottle and usually moving onto a smaller second bottle.
She tends to sleep from around 11.30-5.30 which I know is amazing and I'm not trying to change that!!!!
I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips on how I'm going to get her to go to sleep earlier? And ideally stay asleep a bit longer in the morning. I know she's only six weeks, I'm not trying to change it all now but just tips for the coming weeks and months!? I did this with my son a few years ago but can't seem to remember what I did?! Lol!
I do the bath massage and bed routine with her and she seems to love it. Thanks!

I think true bedtimes just naturally come forward as they get older, with dd2 she suddenly went from a 11pm bedtime to a 9 m one around 8/9 weeks then she then moved herself to a 7 pm one around 12 weeks. I didn't do anything for this it's just as her own routine settled in. She's still very little at6 weeks isn't she and she's obviously cluster feeding for the night still so just give her a bit of time. The bedtime routine stuff helps but I think we have to wait for them. I probably wouldn't let her sleep after 5 pm as a nap and don't let her go more than 3 hrs between bottles if she's had a long nap etc as not enough milk in the day can cause the cluster feeding as they'll try and catch up what they've missed etc. Sounds like your doing just great though xx

Ahh thank you so much! I think my DS did exactly what you've said but I just can't see how I'm going to get her to stop cluster feeding! Lol, she's already having the amount of formula for a 8-12 week baby. I was considering hungry baby milk but don't want to upset her stomach, or our little routine lol. X

I think little babies often have a fussy period in the evening where they want to stick close to a caregiver and feed to soothe themselves. It's something she should grow out of in time.

She sounds like a hungry thing! Don’t put too much sway in the formula amount guidelines- if she’s draining bottles then going forward make her an extra ounce. Hungry baby milk is really for babies that are draining 8oz bottles every 3 hours but are too young to wean yet so I wouldn’t use it for a 6 week old. I used to do a split feed to get more calories into mine before bed so if DS was drinking 6oz bottles I’d feed him 4oz at 5pm and another 4oz at about 6.30pm. I do agree with PP though that they tend to bring their bedtime forward on their own. Both of mine naturally settled into a 7pm bedtime at about 8 weeks. Then they’d have a dreamfeed at 10 to ensure they could get through to morning. Also do you use a dummy? My youngest usually stirs about 5.30am but a quick dummy reinsert typically gets us an extra hour.

Split feeds sounds like a really good idea I might try that! Haven't got a dummy no, I'm trying not to use one but have come very close the last couple of days lol! Thanks for your help 🥰

Babies feed in the evening to boost supply, it's when prolactin is at its highest (milk hormone). This might explain why your baby is feeding through the evening, even if formula feeding. They also feed more during growth spurts.
