Very noisy sleeper 12 week old - should I be worried?

Hi, I have a 12 week old. From early on DS has been a very loud sleeper (grunting, straining, screeching, snorting, whimpering, thrashing about etc). HV said some babies are just are noisy. Google suggested Baby grunting syndrome but that he should grow out of it. He used to wake every 2hrs for a feed, then every 4 hrs, now for last few nights he has been sleeping 6-8hrs at night (I know we're incredibly lucky) but he still wakes us several times a night with noises and thrashing about, sometimes he'll cry but only for a moment and will soon go back to sleep and be quiet for a time before being noisy again later on.

He has progressively got louder and making more noise. Even though his eyes are closed I'm not sure he's actually sleeping or in some sort of discomfort, or if he actually wants a feed but not crying for it. But think surely if he was in pain or hungry he'd cry properly? (He used to cry when wanting feeding every 2hrs).

I am wondering if anyone else has had similar with their baby and if i should be concerned that I'm missing an issue? I'm first time mum so worrying.

Note - DS is sleeping in our room

Hello, my 10 week old is the same. He also arches his back and can be quite bubbly with his saliva. He has been prescribed Gaviscon for reflux and it's been brilliant. He sleeps much better now and is much more comfortable. He has no other symptoms so it's not a milk allergy for him, just reflux but it did make him really uncomfortable and grunty and wheezy overnight. It may be worth having a look at whether this could be the same for your baby? All the best 🙂

To me, he just sounds like a noisy baby and nothing more too it than that.

A dummy may calm his vocal noises. And a swaddle is good for calming thrashing body movements.
