Toddler waking at 5am

Any ideas how to stop my 14month old waking between 5-5.30? Not sure how we will ever transition to one nap as he is so tired come 9. We have shortened his morning nap to 30 minutes ready for when he does drop it. We did try stopping it completely but the early wakings still happened and he just got too overtired. He is currently teething but he isn't crying when he wakes, he is happy in his cot until nearer 7am just chatting or sucking his thumb.

What's his general routine in terms of sleep through the day?

How does he go from being fully awake until he's asleep in the cot, what happens to get him to sleep?

My dd is 16 months and her sleep routine at the moment is:

6-6:30am wake up
9:30-10am nap for 1 hour
2:30-3pm nap for 30 mins
8pm bedtime

She used to wake up at 5am when putting her down at 7pm so we pushed bedtime back by an hour

She starts nursery in June for 2 mornings a week , which I'm hoping changes her naps to 1.5 hours around lunchtime

Thank you @FATEdestiny and @MsSquiz

He gets himself to sleep by sucking his thumb - if completely calms him and gets him ready to sleep.

Day sleep at the moment is a nap at 9am for 30 mins (if he goes down for it and I wake
Him after 30 mins to make sure he has his longer afternoon nap). Then naps again at 1pm but this can range from an hour and very rarely two.

Bedtime is then 7pm but falls asleep by 7.30 generally. A few times it's been a bit later.

We stopped the early wakings by switching to one nap; we started pushing the morning nap back by half an hour a day, first few days he had a short nap in the afternoon until he could get through the day with just a midday nap.
My DD used to wake early too but she’d go back to sleep in my bed but DS doesn’t

I think you’re maybe doing to backwards by giving him a longer afternoon sleep as then he’s less tired for bedtime and more likely to wake early.
