10.5 month old fighting naps

Hi,

I need some advice regarding my 10.5 month old. He's really starting to fight his naps, particularly his second one. His wake windows seem to have dramatically increased over the past week or so. He has started to wake up later (about 7am, it used to be 6:30am but now we have to wake him up) and over the past couple of weeks we've been struggling to get him down for his naps. He goes to bed between 7:15-7:45pm depending on when his last nap ended but we never let him sleep past 4pm. He transitioned from 3 to 2 naps at 6.5 months and I'm wondering if he's transitioning to 1 now. There's been a few instances in the past week where he's only had the 1 nap.

The only developments we've noticed is bopping in his seat and clapping. He's been crawling, pulling to stand, cruising, climbing for weeks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. x

I should add that his wake windows are 3-3.5/3.5/3.5-4

If he's fighting a nap, leave it half an hour and try again or wait until he looks tired.

He's probably fighting the second nap because the first is too late, making the second way too late.

Once on two nap days, your awake times want to start shorter and stretch through the day. The most common is 234.

You don't mention how long naps are, but the first nap either wants to be equal in length of shorter than the second nap. Don't let Nap 1 become the longest nap. A couple of examples would be:

7am wake (2h awake time)
9am-9.45am nap (3h awake time)
12.45pm - 3.30pm (4h awake time)
7.30pm bed

Or

7am wake (2h awake time)
9am-10.45am nap (3h awake time)
1.45pm - 3.30pm (4h awake time)
7.30pm bed

If you're not getting the 3.5h daytime sleep that 234 expects here, a just accordingly but make sure your first nap is the lowest awake window and before bed the longest. Your awake windows seem too close in size.

Hi OP my DD is 9.5 months and I’m having the same problems. Night wakes are creeping in too now 😩

I found that she was sleeping too long in the morning, and so perhaps just wasn’t tired enough for her afternoon nap. So I make sure she doesn’t nap past 10, and then put her down at about 12:45 which seems to help. She’s an early riser at 6 so I do have to stretch her to 9am for her first nap which doesn’t sit with the awake windows that @FATEdestiny sets out.

We have been starting to get a lovely long nap at lunchtime but today we didn’t, but it has improved. Maybe try and make sure her morning nap isn’t too long? Or she could potentially be ready to drop down to one nap, but I think closer to the year is more common.
