5 month old and sleep

So apologies as this has probably been done to death but I'm seriously cracking up and don't really know what to do.

My son is 5 months old, breastfed and an appalling sleeper. It hasn't always been this way - we went through a period from about 2 months - 3.5 months old when he would sleep reliably from 7- 10pm, quick change and feed and then back down until anywhere between 6 and 7. Thought we'd hit the jackpot with a decent sleeper - not so.

Now he spends most of his nights awake - this is not an exaggeration. He's up about every 20 minutes during the first part of the evening, and then fairly constantly from about 11pm. He won't feed so I don't think hunger is the issue. He just cries and cries. No obvious signs of illness, no temperature etc.

His day sleep is also a disaster. Won't fall asleep in his cot even if I'm laying next to him (side sleeper crib) but if I have him sleeping on me he wakes at the slightest movement, noise etc. Used to be happy in the sling but not anymore (have tried stretchy wrap, ring sling and ergobaby). I also have a 3 year old so I can't always contact nap. He isn't even happy in the car seat or pram, as soon as the movement stops he is straight back awake.

I'm aware we are probably in a vicious cycle of over tiredness but I don't know how to go about breaking this. I feel like I've exhausted every option and honesty, I'm close to breaking point. I'm bone crushingly tired. Sad

Have you tried something like this? rockitrocker.com/
They make the pram/crib vibrate so you don’t have to keep moving it yourself. I haven’t tried them personally so don’t know how effective they are though.

@JemimaTiggywinkle I haven't done but I may order one - willing to try anything at this point!

@BreadmanAndCake I could have written parts of this myself. My son is 6 months and also an appalling sleeper, he's up ever 45-hour from about 11.30-6. He's now also not napping well in the day, he manages about 30 mins and then that's it. I also have a 2.5 year old so can't catch up on sleep in the day, I'm exhausted. Unfortunately I don't really have any advice just wanted to say I feel you're pain and you're not alone!

@Laur89 I'm so sorry you're going through the same thing, it's so tough. We've had another terrible day, coupled with the fact that I think I'm actually starting to lose my marbles from sleep deprivation. I really don't know how to remedy it either and I'm so tired I can't think straight! Hoping things resolve for you soon, and in the meantime sending plenty of Brew and Ginyour way x

I have the rockit. It worked wonders for my little boy. He would only sleep on us or when moving in the pram. Thankfully he has grown out of this now. But I cannot recommend the rockit enough. Best £35 I have ever spent!
