Newborn naps with a toddler

My 6 week old baby has just got through the newborn sleepy stage & so very alert during the day & now very noise sensitive.
I have a 2 year old toddler so during the day she is very noisy & I cannot spend ages trying to settle him. The very few occasions i have managed to settle the baby, he has woken within 5 minutes of being put down as she will be screaming. I remember when I got to this phase with my first when she was 6 weeks, I used to go out with her in the pram a lot but obviously that is not as easy this time around...
I use a dummy with him but he just lies there wide awake in the Moses basket. He will also quite contently sit on the jungle gym mat. So does it matter that he doesn’t actually sleep much during the day? He sleeps ok ish at night with 3/4 hour stretches. And can anyone advise on how I can get my baby to sleep in the day with a noisy toddler around?
TIA

The baby will just get used to it and you need to encourage that rather than curtail the toddler’s activities. Just keep putting her down on a consistant schedule

I nearly always used the buggy for naps, and went somewhere with the toddler on a balance bike. Or if at home, toddler and I relaxed and watched a few cartoons/read some picture books when the baby was sleeping.

I have 12 week old twins and a 4 year old - twins go upstairs in their cot for their naps with the monitor on or in their pram in a different room?

Mine used to sleep in the sling. They’re meant to be in the same room as you for all sleeps until 6 months so we did it that way.

Think I used the sling alot too. And pram as you can rock it while your little one plays outside. Perfect time of year for that!
Also don't be afraid of the TV for a while if needed to get toddler still for a while and give you time to help baby settle.

Enforced time for everyone after lunch with stories and/or TV for the toddler. Go to the park and have baby nap in the pram.

The baby will get used to it, as others have said. I never tried to limit my eldests noise and within a couple of weeks the baby would have slept through a bomb going off. In fact, sometimes I’m sure she pretended to be asleep to avoid her sisters nonsense.

Which is not at all in line with SIDS guidance, if that’s important to the OP.

Take toddler out on scooter/bike/whatever while baby naps in pram. Or tell toddler it's "quiet time" and stick them in front of a film while baby naps in cot.

Fundays12 · 26/04/2021 15:01

I have 3 my younger kids just got used to the noise and slept through it. If they really couldn't settle I put him in a sling. I also used the carrycot on the pram which is right next to the living room and left the door open. It minimised the noise a bit but I could still hear them

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 26/04/2021 15:08

The baby will get used to usual toddler noise - but it's worth working on reducing the screaming from a toddler. Occupy them with a walk, outside play (baby in buggy), jigsaw, books etc. So noise, but not screaming.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone! I haven’t used a sling before so I’ll definitely give that a go.
To those who said that baby will get used to toddler noise, roughly how long did it take? I have managed to settle baby a couple of times today only to be woken by toddlers noise after only 10 minutes 🤦‍♀️
