Hi,

i have a little 12 months old monkey who is horrible at sleeping.
since he was borne sleeping has been a problem, he spent months refusing his cot, had to sleep in his pram. we managed to get him use to his cot but he will wake up up to 20 times a night screaming, I'm sooooo tired and he is too.

he had a sleep study at Sheffield children's hospital but couldn't see anything, so im left with my little monster exhausted as well as me.

i have called gp and they pretty much said he will learn to sleep, ehhhhhhh ok. much help not

health visitor also not great help.

any advice mums? sleep depravation is killing me

Why don't you bring his cot next to your bed, remove one side so it's side-carred to your bed, and cuddle him to sleep in there?

Mine did this, he had reflux.
Perhaps why he's happier more upright in pram?

Cmpa or reflux

I had one like this. It's truly a killer, you have my sympathies.

For us, it turned out to be tummy pains caused by certain foods. Not allergies, but temporary intolerances almost, as he got used to different foods. Big triggers were grapes and raisins, citrus fruits (especially oranges, satsumas...), whole wheat foods like weetabix and shreddies... cheese too close to bedtime (so limited it to no later than lunch). He can eat them all fine now.

Frankly all medics were utterly useless, until we finally met one who suggested an order of food eliminations to see if cutting things out helped. After a lot of trial and error, we found out the main problems and sleep improved.

Interestingly we had the same issue with one of our younger kids a few years later, and cut those trigger foods out straight away, and that solved their sleep SO much earlier than we'd battled through with our older child.

Might be worth considering digestive pain, even if not outwardly obvious? For ours they just got SO bloated at night they'd wake screaming. The other 2 seem to have managed to avoid the issue entirely, so I'm not sure why it only affects some!

Good luck to you though. I really hope you find a solution.

(And yes to sleeping practically next to each other until it's solved. I turned DH out of the bed for months when we were at our worst point, so I could have our son close by for rapid soothing..!
