Does 'normal baby sleep' include waking after 20 mins crying?

My daughter is 10 months and hasn't slept well since she was 3 months but we did some gentle sleep training and things got better. Tonight she was put down awake and fell asleep for 2h then woke crying. Got her back to sleep with a cuddle, she slept for 20 mins then woke screaming, arching her back and inconsolable until I fed her and has dropped off again in my arms but is periodically wriggling. I keep reading that it's normal for babies to wake in the night but is this normal, to be so distressed? I feel like something else is going on (food intolerance?) but don't know if I'm looking for something that isn't really there. Anyone had anything similar?

The arching back etc does sound like some issue like tapped wind, digestive issues etc. Could also be a night terror. Does she open her eyes first before the arching?

Yes. Sounds like teeth

@LouiseTrees I cant recall if her eyes open when she wakes then she arches or not. But when she does it in my arms her eyes stay closed but her face screws up a bit. She does seem very uncomfortable and it happens pretty often but not every night

@JohnLapsleyParlabane could be teeth, her first 2 came in Jan but none since then. I'll get some bonjela on hand for the next time she wakes, thanks!

Good luck. Both of mine had twitchy nights with teeth.

Arched back does sound like wind or maybe an intolerance.
