What time does your Yr1 dc go to sleep?

Prior to the summer hols ds1 slept pretty well, usually asleep between 7.30 and 8.15 but this term he is being a mightmare and is sometimes up until 10pm. He wakes at around 7am. We have a bedtime routine which starts at 7.30pm with milk, story etc but he just seems so wide awake even an hour later. Am I putting him to sleep too early?

He can be very difficult when he returns from school, shouting a lot and tormenting ds2 which makes me think he's tired. I just wondered for how long other 5/6yr olds slept at night.

ds1 (5) is asleep by 7.30 every night, and we hear him going for a wee at about 6.30am.

When my dd was 1 she went to bed around 8

On a school night DD is in bed asleep between 7:30 and 8pm. Much depends on what tinme we get in (esp if after school activity) and what time we get dinner finished by, and if she has homework to do. We don't really have a bedtime routine anymore - just either me or DH goes up with her, supervising teeth brushing, reads a story and that's it. She wakes up sometime around 7am.

Weeknds and holidays are way more flexible and she goes to bed at different times then depending on where we are and what we are doing. DD will generally sleep for about 11 hours. If she goes to bed late she gets up late. So if we fancy a lay in, she gets a lie in

Thanks everyone, that is what I thought the norm would be.

DD varies from 7 on a week night to 8/8.30 at the weekend. She went through a 'trying' phase of getting up persistantly, we couldnt use positive reinforcement because she wasnt doing anything good to praise at that time (she turned into the demon child coz she was so tierd) so we ended up taking toys/things she liked doing away and to earn them back she had to stay in bed, we also resorted to bribery some of the time to get her back in the habit of sleeping. Anyway took a few weeks and a few frazzled tempers but shes got a good sleeping pattern again, she def needs 11/12 hours a night or the demon rears its ugly head again.

Lights out (TV off) at the latest 8, if they are not already asleep, usually are!
Usually in bed by 7, seriously had enough of them by then!

MissusH · 08/11/2007 20:48

dd is in bed by 7.30 and is usually asleep by 8. She wakes between 6 & 7 every morning, even if she has a late night...

saadia · 08/11/2007 20:52

I've usually had enough of him by 5pm haychee . Think I need to aim for him to be asleep by 8. He's usually very hyper just before bed, then after he's been in bed for a while he calms down and then becomes really chatty which I try to ignore.

normally at some point between 8 and 9 I think. I try to aim for 8 and then we take it from there

PavlovtheCat · 08/11/2007 20:55

DD 16 months goes to bed at 8pm, sleeps through, mostly until 7:30am.

DynamiteDaisy · 08/11/2007 20:55

My DS is usually in bed for 7 and asleep by 7:30 and that's him till 6:30 next morning.

weekends he stays up a bit later, but unfortunately doesn't sleep any later!

PavlovtheCat · 08/11/2007 20:56

Oh god, the chatting. Dont they go on when it suits them?

I find the tv in bed helps to wind mine down a bit. They watch a bit in bed, usually half a dvd. Then they are usually very sleepy, if not already asleep.

Not everyones choice though, a tv in their bedroom, but it gives me an hour of peace when i need it, and they need it too.

Other advantage is that you can threaten to take it away if he is naughty, like when he wound his brother up earlier.
