Our ds has always slept great in his cot and even gone to bed still awake and never cried etc but this weekend just gone We changed the cot into the bed for our 2.5yr old DS and the first night he slept well in there no probs, but the last 2 nights I’ve sat beside him in his bed with dimmed lights and read him some books and when it comes to me going when I say nite nite he runs to the door to try to come downstairs and Asks to go downstairs and will not settle at all n starts to get upset. We have a gate on his door so he does stand at the door but lastnite he was up shouting of us at the gate at 1am then 3am, could this just be a phase whilst he gets use to being able to get out of his bed now??

Our son is the same age and we recently changed his cot into a bed. For the first 10-14 nights (I can't quite remember!) I slept in the same room as him in a spare bed. Is this an option for you? We found it helped ease the transition along.

Unfortunately this isn’t reAlly an option for us as he’s in a single room so not much room unless we sleep on the floor and I’m 19 weeks pregnant with painful pho so I don’t fancy that. He had asked us to lay with him so we go in for 10 mins and he usually drops off but lastnite when we did this he was up as soon as we left and had a full on tantrum shouting abs crying for atleast 20 mins, we tried to hold out to see if he would go to bed after so long as he kept stopping answering starting but I’m the end hubby had to go and lay with him. Not sure what we r doing wrong Confused. He also refused to eat any food yesterday apart from breakfast. Totally at a loose end now. I felt like crying lastnite as it’s been just over 2 weeks now since we changed the cot to a bed. Is this normal for this to go on so long? I was hoping he would be use to it now.

It sounds like he's not emotionally ready for a bed. The enclosed cot sides give a sence of security, a safe feeling that younger babies need to sleep.

I generally don't think children are ready for a bed, emotionally speaking, until past 3rd birthday. Some need longer than that.

I'd change back to a cot.

But a new cot for the baby.
