Please no judgmental comments

My 10 month old will just not sleep!

He's refusing both naps (usually has 1.5ish hours at 9am and 1.5ish hours at 1/2pm) or if he does eventually fall asleep he only stays asleep for 30 mins! I'm so exhausted 😓

He's refused his afternoon nap for a good 5 days now, but he's absolutely exhausted. He will sit there in his cot crying and rubbing his eyes, showing all the signs he's shattered. It's a never ending cycle of being over tired!

Because of this he ends up having an early bedtime because he can barely stay awake past 5pm and is usually asleep by 6pm. This used to be nice because it meant me and DH got that quality time together on an evening but he can't self soothe anymore so when he wakes up after every cycle 45 minutes, he screams and cries until we go and pick him up and cuddle him.

He's also started refusing his bottles too, he eats most of his solid food but he's starting to completely push away his bedtime bottle and his lunchtime one too. Yesterday he wouldn't eat his evening meal so we went to bedtime routine instead, thinking he would guzzle his bottle down but he refused it!

So sorry for this post being all over the place, I just feel like I'm losing my mind and ripping my hair out daily and needed to rant! 😭😭😭

Teething? I found when it was really bad my DS wouldnt even feed (breastfed) which was unheard of for him. I also remember around 10/11 months he started sometimes doing 1 nap and it was always a disaster as he would be so tired. He actually went back to 2 after a couple of weeks and didnt fully drop to 1 until about 16 months or so. That transition I found the hardest though so I totally feel you.

Babies are hard to understand and there seems to always be something going on. All I can offer is solidarity. Just get through however you need to. It will get easier! (She says with a 20mo who still doesnt sleep 🙃)

Also, my DS wakes at 5am almost every day. We just go and snuggle on the sofa with milk and watch TV until it's a normal time and we can function. I was always super against TV this young but sometimes you just need to survive!

@Whuut

I think teething is probably not helping, last month he got 3 teeth all at once and he was very difficult then too but this time it's even worse... probably even more teeth coming through again, still doesn't have his bottom middle two! 😩

I've read a lot of experiences similar to yours regarding the 2 naps until 16 months so I'm praying that's what DS does 🤞🏼 I'm definitely not ready for one nap just yet 😂

We also just chill out and watch TV until a reasonable time in the morning too, we usually go downstairs for breakfast around 7:30am and just relax watching little baby bum and give him his bottle before that 😂

@JenIsAGem Teething can be so rough. I used to forget it was even a thing and then after the worst week DS would have 2 knew teeth and I'd be like oh yeh duh! He cut 6 at once when he was 7mo, it was horrendous!

Sounds like you're doing eveything you can, just keep going! I'm dreading DS dropping naps altogether but I think we are way off that thankfully!

Had he been sleeping well before ? Could he have an ear infection ? My daughter used to sleep really well and then started doing this around that age and it was an ear infection. It basically was really painful every time she lay down and so she just didn't want to sleep. That was the only symptom she had, she wasn't pulling at her ears or having a temperature.

nameisnotimportant · 16/03/2021 11:21

Forgot to mention, refusing the bottle is also a sign of an ear infection because sucking hurts their ears

JenIsAGem · 16/03/2021 11:32

@nameisnotimportant wow that never crossed my mind to check for that, thank you!

There's a nasty sleep regression at 10 months. Have a look at the wonderweeks app. Good luck
