Night of two halves

We have a 6 week old who generally sleeps well at night. He goes to sleep around 7pm each night then we usually wake him about 10.30pm for milk. He then settles off to sleep easily and quickly after that. He'll wake anything from 3-4.5 hrs later for more milk but after that bottle he has started, the last week or two, being really restless, noisy, won't sleep in his crib etc. We have no idea why or what makes that sleep so awful.
Any ideas?

Does he have reflux? My boy grunted all night long because of his reflux and it kept us awake. Eventually had to use ear plugs just to get some sleep. I was worried I wouldn't wake for him when he needed if I wore them, but I would wake no problem.

Is it worth not waking him for a feed? Let him wake up naturally, give him his first night feed, then when he wakes for his next bottle, it might be a more acceptable time in the morning

Not sure if he has reflux or how to tell. All the other night feeds he's fine with though.

Sometimes at 10.30 he does just wake naturally so we don't always wake him...same outcome either way.

Incidentally, during the day it's the 4pm sleep he struggles with...almost 12 hours apart from this one

He ended up falling asleep last night but only on me. Not sure why he's struggling so much these last few days.

Following as have the same issue with my little girl. Feels like she’s struggling with wind / reflux maybe but not sure why it doesn’t bother her earlier on, so weird isn’t it

FATEdestiny · 11/03/2021 19:13

Try giving your bsby a dummy, it may help

My boy doesn't particularly seem to have issues with wind. He's been a tad more sicky but not significantly. He'll also often wake after 30mins after being asleep and then needs rocking back to sleep.

Have you tried using a T-shirt that DH has worn as the sheet in his Moses basket? The smell might help him to settle.

flingleflongle · 12/03/2021 07:55

Yes we've used a t-shirt of mine or my wife's each day.

Last night was better. He was grizzly but I just put the side of the next to me crib down and stroked him when he stirred

I used to do that with our DD and it usually helped.

Just wondering if using your DE T-shirt works? I've always found the smell of milk made them want me more.

Not sure if it works or not but as I'm male it won't smell of milk!

Wouldn't sleep unless on me again at 3...as soon as he went in his crib he was grunting, wriggling, throwing his head around. Wondering now if there's a medial issue that affects him at this time of day

Is he crying or just moving about?

So he's so doing this. We got gripe water as we wondering if it's wind problem due to the noise he makes and its only that one sleep on the day he does it.

He fell asleep on me after his bottle at 3am but put him in his crib and he grunts etc. Eventually got him out and he slept fine on me.

It's so strange... we just can't work out what is wrong

*So he's still doing this...

I think you have my baby. When he's sleeping in his bed again please give him back.

jamie980 · 16/03/2021 14:24

Have you tried holding him upright for a while after feeds? It seems to be helping with the reflux for us (if it is that)... bit of a killer at night though

Yep... tried that and doesn't seem to make a difference

I have this with my 10 week old, I have been told that it's around that time in the morning their digestive system kicks in, hence all the build up of wind and grunts etc and refusal to go back to sleep. Think you just need to wait it out until they grow out of it.
