35 minute napper?

I was wondering if anyone can offer advice on how to get my almost 17 week old son to sleep for longer in the day as he always does 35 minute naps.

He sleeps well at night (usually around 10-11 hours with no feed from around 8pm-6.30/7).

We put him down in his crib in the same environment as his night sleep (we have blackout blinds, bear which plays white noise and put him in sleep bag).

I have tried playing around with wake times between 1.5 hours to 2 hours sometimes longer, he never really shows major signs of being tired until he starts rubbing his eyes so it can be hard to tell when is the right time to put him down or when it's too late and I usually do a wind down walk when I'm think it's the right time where I go into his room for sleep in the dark and just walk up and down with shuss noises and this gets him to sleep within anywhere between a few minutes to 10 minutes. I have been trying to pit him down drowsy but awake but none of this seems to make a difference to his nap time - always 35 mins (he does 4 naps a day)

Trouble is I find he is getting grumpy at certain times of the day as he is tired.

I'm not sure whether to try some sort of sleep training or whether to just give him time and he will learn on his own? He is just wide awake after a 35 minute naps and eventually starts screaming crying if he's left for too long he never goes back to sleep.

Also probably worth mentioning he does suffer eith reflux but is on Omeprazole and so whether this is affecting his naps I'm not sure.. any advice?

I had this same issue with DS and he also had bad reflux. I would have to feed back to sleep and that usually got another 30 minutes or so and then I conceded defeat.
Sometimes, walking him about in the buggy or sling would send him off again too.
He's now 15mo and currently has been asleep for 90 minutes (and counting!) so it does get better.

It's natural at that age to have short naps. They will lengthen over time. Incredible night sleep!! Enjoy your baby.

My 20 week old sounds similar to yours, sleeps beautifully for 10-11 hours at night but won't sleep for longer than 30 minutes during the day. I can almost use him as an alarm as he's exactly 30 minutes on the dot. I find he gets grumpier throughout the day as though he needs more sleep, and sometimes I wish for a little longer than 30 minutes for myself .

I'm hoping that day naps will gradually lengthen over time. Someone did tell me that for them the naps got longer once they started eating. if you find anything which works for you I'd be very interested. I've tried bringing nap times earlier, later, sleeping on me, in the cot, in the carrier, leaving him for quiet time when he wakes up. The only thing I've found to sometimes make him sleep for longer is driving.

Will let you know if I do, not really keen on doing any major sleep training at the moment plan to just give it time and see how things go as he is still young and does does well at night. I also find going for walks helps him get some extra sleep.
