What tog sleeping bag?

Hi guys,

Our little girl is due on May 23rd and I'm looking to purchase a
Love To Dream Swaddle for her to sleep in as I have heard good things.

Does anyone have any advice on what tog to go for? We will be heading into summer but I really couldn't tell you how hot our room is in the summer months? Would a 1 tog one be suitable? If I get a 1 tog and the temperature drops a little, could I add some additional layers for her to sleep in or would she need to go up to 2.5 tog?

1.5 or 1 will be fine with a vest under

What about if the temperature gets a little cooler?

Google 'gro company what to wear'

You type in their weight and the temperature of their room and they tell you what they should be wearing and which tog :)

I have done that but my problem is I just don't know the temperature of the room so don't want to buy one that isn't the right one. I know a 2.5 is good for when things get cool but just want to know if a 1 tog is suitable for if things get cool (i.e. if temp drops, can more layers be added to the baby or do I need to go up in tog).

I think it's very unlikely the room will get cold enough for 2.5 tog from May, you could always get a cheap thermometer from Amazon to see what sort of temp your room is sitting at when we have a warmer night in April but anything over 18 degrees and 1 tog with the right layers is fine x

GinWithLime · 04/03/2021 11:39

@BabyDaddy01 then pop a baby grow on. Honestly you don't need to check the temperature of the room, you'll know if it's too warm or too cold Smile

If it gets cooler you can add more layers - check out the Tommee Tippee recommendations - it shows you what to wear for different room temperature/tog combos (though some people find their LOs too cold with these recommendations, but the principle is the same)

I had a room thermometer and a 1 tog and a 2.5 tog and just went by what the temp was in the room each day. Also currently using a 3.5 tog but I live in a cold house with not very good heating.

You're going to need a small selection anyway as baby will puke on them, have nappy explosions etc so have a couple of each. Even in summer temperatures can vary massively especially if you are further north. You can mix and match combos with warmer bag and less clothing or layers and a thinner bag

ShirleyPhallus · 05/03/2021 06:35

We used a 1 tog and then had a cellular blanket which we added as an extra layer when it got a bit colder through the night

One bit of advice - you can find yourself totally obsessed with the temperature and layers, don’t worry about changing her sleeping bag throughout the night or anything!
