2.5yo wakes at 1am every night. How do we stop it?

For the last few months we’d been lazy and brought her into our bed. Now we’re ttc so it’s been the push we need to sort it out.

She goes to bed at 7.30, no daytime nap and will wake at 7/7.30am. But, she wakes between 1 and 2am every night.

For a week we’ve been taking it in turns to go in and sit with her. It takes an hour. Last night she went back to sleep and woke again at 2.30 😩 Unfortunately I’m too tired and brought her in with us.

What can we do??? She’s in a cot but she can climb out. She’s definitely not ready for an actual bed yet. She went through a stage of head butting her cot until she bled so I don’t think crying it out is right.

Following as we have same problem with 18 month old x

It’s so frustrating isn’t it. I don’t know what wakes her at that time.

Have a look at the “wake to sleep” method, particularly if she is reliably waking at a similar time each night. (Essentially, you disturb your child’s sleep around half an hour/an hour before they’d usually wake)

It’s not the easiest & doesn’t always work but I’ve seen plenty of success using this method. Good luck!

My daughter usually wakes at 11:30pm and then again at 3 and like you, I'm so tired I just bring her into our bed.

I think once it's happened a few times, it becomes their natural body clock wake up time.

I've never heard of this method. I'll read up on it :) thanks x

Make sure you're awake a bit earlier than that and listening for anything that might well be waking her up - is it cold in her room then, blankets kicked off, neighbour goes to bed, neighbour goes for a pee and flushes, heating kicking in briefly or another regular noise.

I’ll look at the wake to sleep method. Willing to try anything!!

If she can climb out the cot, and was head butting it until she bled, she needs to be out of the cot and into a toddler bed.

At 2 and a half she's probably not got room in her cot to move enough and she's waking herself up rolling into the bars or turning sideways or something.
She needs to be in a bed. Especially if she can climb out, that's just plain dangerous.
Also, the change in the cot to the bed might be enough to just reset her in relation to sleep and waking. My ds is 2 and a half and there is absolutely no way I would have him still in a cot, nor would he let me

She's been in a toddler bed since Friday night!

She still wakes once but goes back to sleep much faster. I haven't tried the wake to sleep yet because she wakes at different times.

Really hoping she'll sleep through soon...

She didn’t wake up last night 😀😀😀

I was awake at 2am waiting and wide awake at 4am waiting 😂 Fingers crossed it’s the start of sleeping through!
