My sweet DS used to have a lovely routine of napping approx every 2 hours and bed around 7. We used car, pram, and just feeding to sleep then he'd sleep next to me. Now pram does NOT do anything - too interested in everything else. Car is hit and miss. Feeding to sleep works after a few hours. Ends up only having 2 naps and is devilishly grumpy by 4! Screaming his head off today. Any suggestions for helping him nap?
He's teething and has been on solids about a month now if relevant! BF baby.

He would probably benefit from learning to go yo sleep in his cot. I appreciate this will probably involve a lot of crying and plenty of patience, but could you try sticking with it comforting him in the cot?

That's a rather terrible idea to upset the baby even further with all things going on.In fact, introducing a totally new item to his familiar routine will disrupt everything even further.

OP,I think you identified all the things that my disrupt his routine pretty well.Unfortunately, there is not much you can do apart from accepting new challenge, his lovely routine as a new baby ought to change as he is getting more courious, his senses and new abilities make him more independent and he wants to explore his new skills,They don't need as much sleep as before,as they are busy learning every day (and night as they do it in their sleep as well). Is he enjoying staying on a mat, playing with toys?Is he able to seat in a highchair and play there while you are cooking etc?
If teething is really bothering him,I will suggest teething powder or painkillers if the first fails.Teething toys kept in a fridge.
New food?Do you think he may be upset because of allergy/intolerance?
If he doesn't like his car seat anymore, maybe he would prefer a bouncy chair/swing?
After he is screaming around 4 pm,what do you do?
