no idea about alarm clocks! dd is darling daughter. click on acronym list, it is list of abbreviations.

we have used one with our twins, now nearly 4. It worked initially but as soon as they went to stay with granny and she showed them how to wake bunny up (silly bunny, he's slept in thanks MIL!) it hasn't had the same effect. I can sell you one though if you like (its pink and lilac though!)

I think there are mixed views on MN about these. Personally we got one when DS was around 3ish (and still use it - DS is 7).
It worked for us & solved the problem of him getting up at 6am.
(you can stop them waking up bunny by just keeping it somewhere they can't reach!)

inamuckingfuddle · 03/11/2007 15:51

yes, we know that and kept him well out of reach, it was dearest MIL who scuppered all our efforts, now if the DTs wake up before him they just come in and say 'bunny's slept in again'

kittycrackles · 03/11/2007 15:53

We had one, the bloody thing never worked

bootsmonkey · 03/11/2007 16:11

we had one, it also never worked properly. Also, if they do happen to sleep in at all, the noise of the ears going up is sufficient to wake them if they are light sleepers. Ours lasted about 2 weeks before it had to go to the hospital cos it was sick...........

thanks for advice!every night i hope its going to be different and every morning i'm awake before cbeebies...an extra hour would be amazing - so think ive got to give bunny a shot.though may ending up shooting it ,by the sounds of it-will keep well away from both- is it a bit babyish for 4 yr boy?do you think an alarm clock equally effective?and how many mornings of them yelling or coming upstairs will it take do you think?think my new neighbours-no kids- already hate me for sound of screaming-the kids or me!!

It has worked for us... we tell DS that he has to go back to his room to play if bunny isnt awake yet. If he sleeps in or stays in his room until the alotted time (7.15am) then DS gets a treat later in the day (small match box car or gingerbread man, etc). He used to wake at 5am too. We also stopped giving a bedtime drink as he would often wake at 5am ish for a wee and then wouldn't go back to sleep. Now he doesnt have a drink or need a wee so early, so that has also helped.

My son is 3.3yrs and he loves his bunny clock, and enjoys putting it to sleep at bed time. I don't think a normal alarm clock would have worked for DS as he is too young to read the time. Also once the alarm goes off, they have to be able to stop it, so unless you're in a different wing of the house, you will also be woken up by either the beeping or your DS telling you the alarm is going off and they dont know how to turn it off. Bunny just pops up and you don't have to actually set the alarm (although it does have alarm function if you need it).

I posted a similar question on MN a while ago about these clocks and from the advice I received it does seem they might not be as good as you might think.

Ears waking up child if still asleep was mentioned, also if you have it up out of the way so they can't fiddle with it then if it's dark in the morning the child can't see clock and I think they can be unreliable.

Anyway, I was recommended the bunny clock like this that lights up, and although they are pricey you can get them cheaper online it works great for my DD and she's now 4.5. She knows that if the bunny hasn't woken up then she has to be quiet, but is alowed to get out of bed and potter in her room, as long as she's quiet!

Out of interest a couple of people said they just bought a big simple clock and taught their child that when the hands were at 7 o'clock it was OK to get up etc.

Good luck
