Where does your baby nap during the day? 🤔

Just that really, where does your baby nap during the day? 🤔

DS is 15 weeks old and until about 11/12 weeks would only nap on me/DH or in the pram when out a walk.
Have been working really hard on changing this and getting him to let us put him down for naps. If it’s light and there’s noise (eg, lounge during the day) he won’t go down to sleep but will sleep being held. He will sleep in his Snuzpod during the day in our room if it’s dark and quiet. DH perfectly happy for him to be left in our room napping while we go about our day with the baby monitor on. This makes me nervous as I feel he should be sleeping where we are until at least 6 months. But that realistically means having to sit in the dark in our room with him for hours each day 🤔

House is all on one level of that makes any difference 🤷🏻‍♀️

DD slept in the pram, sling or on a parent for day naps til 6m. Sleep should be with someone else in the room til then, to protect from SIDS, and i didnt want to spend hours of each day sitting in the dark by her crib.

Squish3 · 17/02/2021 22:01

@Ohalrightthen Thanks! That’s exactly what I thought.

When under 6 months he slept either on me, in the pram or in the carry cot part of the pram in the livingroom/dining room or kitchen. I just moved him round with me in it. After 6 months he has always had his naps if we are home in his cot.

emmaluggs · 18/02/2021 13:55

My first I was religious with naps in the same room so whether that was on me or rocked in bouncer or Moses basket.

My second with a noisy toddler it was a bit more difficult, morning nap tended to be on a walk. The afternoon nap I’d pop him in his cot with monitor and doors open. This was from about 3 months, but he slept overnight in our room until at least 6 months.

@Blue2021 Mine will just not stay asleep in the pram carrycot in the house 😅 as soon as we’re outside and moving he’s out like a light! Inside and moving and he just looks at me like I’m an idiot 🤣🤣

That young, usually in me after a feed tbh. But when on mat leave with one it was great, I just enjoyed the cuddle and watched TV. Often in a sling too. When older he fell asleep in pram on walk every day. He wouldn't go in his cot.

@emmaluggs oh I can only imagine how difficult it is with 2 😅 mine won’t sleep in a rocker or bouncer either 🙈 will literally sleep on me, in his pram but only when it’s moving outside or in the dark room in the Snuzpod 😅
I’ve put him on the monitor in his Snuzpod a couple of times but it makes me nervous not having him in the same room when he’s so young😓 our bedroom is next door to our lounge and with all doors open it genuinely takes 3seconds to get to him but I still feel weird about it 😓

@FrancesFlute Oh I definitely just enjoy the cuddles most days lol. DH works offshore though so for a few weeks at a time im here with baby myself and sometimes I just need hands free to catch up on house stuff if I haven’t had the chance when he’s been awake 😅

@Squish3 yes it is nerve wracking and you just need to do with what your most comfortable with. I’d take the opportunity to get all snuggly to be honest.

When the bigger one was at nursery, I’d more often than not still have snuggly naps with the little one. I do miss those days

Squish3 · 18/02/2021 14:38

@emmaluggs i can imagine!! Its only now that I have my own little one that I realise what people are talking about when they say it makes time go quickly 😳 I have no idea how my little guy is already 15 weeks 😢

My DD is 16 weeks and is currently asleep on the sofa. Morning nap is normally upstairs in her pod with the baby monitor on, but I normally do upstairs jobs while she's asleep. Afternoon is either sofa or on me. She's not on the move yet, this will all change when she is.

happymummy12345 · 18/02/2021 16:16

My baby only ever slept upstairs in his crib then cot, for day sleeps and at night. I always had a video monitor and checked on him regularly. I never saw the need to have a baby sleep downstairs or in the same room during the day. It's different at night when you're asleep, but in the day I don't see a problem with it at all. And I hate Moses baskets so I would never have one or use one.

Squish3 · 18/02/2021 17:30

@chelle862 @happymummy12345 yeah I suppose it’s different during the day when you’re nearby 😊

Mine only sleeps in the car seat, pram or sling during the day! No idea why, he’s great at night!

It's not though - really you should be in the room for all sleep. It isn't so that you notice if theyre not OK, it's because your presence helps them to regulate their breathing and prevents SIDS. If you're not there, that doesn't happen.

converseandjeans · 18/02/2021 19:07

Mine always slept up in their room for lunch nap. I used to have monitor on. This was 13 years ago and it may have been recommended to be in same room but I don't recall anyone else staying in same room 24/7 (from chatting to other Mums at the time) I also wasn't on Mumsnet.

I don't know what SIDS figures are like to compare how effective this rule is? I don't know that co-sleeping is that safe. So there's always a risk.

I don't know I would have coped with the pressure of having to have baby in same room at all times, especially with a toddler when I had DS. I used to have time away from mine too when they were babies to meet friends, go out for beers some nights. Luckily they're both fine.

chelle862 · 18/02/2021 19:44

I have things to do, I can't always stay wherever she is napping for her whole nap. Sometimes it's 45 mins, sometimes it's 2 hours. I use that time to catch up on jobs so I can spend quality time with her when she's awake. I check on her frequently, baby monitor is on so if I do go up/downstairs I can hear her and she's doing just fine so far.

That's fine, you can make that decision, she's your baby! But you should be aware of the risks of doing so, rather than just saying it's all fine. You can decide to ignore the guidelines, but they do exist for a reason.
Mollymarvelous · 18/02/2021 20:04

17 weeks sleeps in snuz pod for 3 naps a day between 30 mins and 1.5 hrs. Sometimes with lots of crying and sometimes goes straight down. Stopped napping on the sofa on me about 8 weeks

Squish3 · 18/02/2021 20:37

@Ohalrightthen Yeah I know that...that’s why I don’t feel comfortable with DHs plan of just sticking the monitor on. I was just interested in what everyone else does. He’s on me for most naps and the longest he’s ever alone at the moment when sleeping is when I need the loo during the night! (DH works offshore so it’s often just baby and I)
