the cat will be sedated on Nov 5th (though if tonight is anything to go by, she might need her drugs before then).

But what can I do about ds? He's only 8 months old and waking at the loud bangs... short of taping cotton wool over his ears, I can't think of anything to help him. ARGHHHHHHHHHH

I could lend you a few ds's to get him used to lots of noise if you want - no charge - you just have to feed them, wash them, listen to them whiging and fighting, banging doors and shouting at eachother - will pick them up sometime next week

Know what you mean - dd is 21 months and was woken by some vast explosions about a week ago - she was all trembly and sad. Luckily there was only a short burst that time, but I'm dreading the next few days. Tonight there are loads, but not too close... I usually play lullaby classical music to send her off, I think I might put it on a loop, so even if she stirs, she'll have something comforting and familiar on already.... don't know what else to try.
I think they should keep fireowrks for public displays too - people should be happy with some sparkers in their garden!!!

shocking typing - fireworks, and sparklers, that should be

Put a radio in room and tune it out so it's emitting "white noise". Don't have it too loud but it should help

MegBusset · 03/11/2007 20:38

DS already been woken once. We live next door to a park where a huge public display is currently taking place

NotQuiteCockney · 03/11/2007 20:39

We all have white noise machines in our rooms. It really helps. We are near a park with a huge public display now, but both mine are asleep, thank god.

MegBusset · 03/11/2007 20:39

Funny that the last few years I have been at that display, loving it, now I'm at home going "Shhhh" every time a rocket goes off!

JARM · 03/11/2007 20:53

dd2 fell asleep in my arms while we had fireworks tonight!

both sleep heavily and our neighbours are faily considerate in that its no later than 8pm really.

haychEebeeJeebees · 03/11/2007 20:55

My two love to go to sleep to the radio. Classic fm ususally. Not my personal cup of tea but is very calming and may ditract lo from fireworks.

Spink · 04/11/2007 14:16

didn't get to the computer yesterday to check so ds had to go it alone without your tips.. amazingly he slept through them, apart from one bang early on, which scared him and caused hy sterical screaming..
I think I'll try white noise at the start of the night, when he is still sleeping fairly lightly.
Thank you
