I keep getting nightmares I am being shot or stabbed - how can I prevent them?

The night before last I have two nightmares I was shot, they were so so vivid I could feel the bullets and remember exactly where I was shot in both dreams. I amso was in a boat (like a ferry) with a glass bottom that sank and I remember that vividly too. About 3/4 nights ago I had a nightmare my ex locked me in our old flat (which he used to do) and was threatening to kill me - he slices my fingers which again I felt, and held the knife up to my cheek, below my eye and threatened me and I felt him press harder and harder with it slicing me slowly. About 2 weeks ago I had another dream I was in the army running and was shot twice - once in the neck and actually felt myself dying. How can I stop them happening? I am getting scared to go to bed again now and when I wake up in the middle of the night I actually try and hold my eyes open to prevent going back to sleep, but I am half asleep anyway so it's impossible. Anyway, what would make them go away?

God, you poor thing. How awful. I'm afraid I don't know much about dreams but I hope someone on here does.
Bumping for you anyway.

Erm, before bed it's usually quick dinner with DH, iron his shirt for morning brush teeth then go to bed. I did try having a relaxing bath etc. before bed and wind down, but DH gets in so late that we have to cram evening things into about 60 mins ie. dinner, any time together etc. Ill try harder tonight to relax before bed, I think DH is home early (well, 8) so should be easier.
