it was awful!! ended up with me, dh, 3 kids, and a dog in my bed!
have been trying to do the cc thing with ds but cant as dd1 keeps waking with an itching head( something she has had since she was 18 months old) she has been taken to dr's, paedactricians, etc, one of whom accused me of being over reactive and paranoid! as you can imagine i was fuming, and words of blue variety flew at this dr! they dont understand the pain it causes her, and us as we cant get her back to sleep, or calm her down for at least an hour! shes now 7, and still got it!!
this sleeping thing with all of the kids is getting beyond a joke!! aarghh , sorry letting off steam!

awww sorry to hear it. I didn't sleep much last night for different reasons but sounds like you're having it bad. Is it scalp psoriasis she has? poor wee girl x

sassybabee · 27/10/2004 17:54

dont know what the hell it is. one minute its fine...the next its red raw where she has been scratching. the dr says nothing there, so what can he do?? they cant put it dont to mother paranonia now after 7 years!!!

JuniperDewdrop · 27/10/2004 17:55

No they can't, this must be awful for her. Have you seen a dermatologist?

JuniperDewdrop · 27/10/2004 17:56

No actually a tricologist may be better (scalp/hair specialist)

sassybabee · 27/10/2004 18:03

i gave up trying to convince them something was wrong, no one wants to know! i said could we be referred to someone else that could help. the reply was" there is no one, theres nothing there to show them"!!
what kept you awake last night?

My neice is in hospital with pancreatitis. It's her 3rd bout and she's only 28. We're close in age though as mum had me late. I went to see her this afternoon and her face is very bloated, she doesn't look well. Some lovely 'friend' walked in and said to her 'why's your face so bloated?' Good job looks can't kill or else I'd be locked up now

JuniperDewdrop · 27/10/2004 18:08

BTW have you already tried almond oil on her scalp?

sassybabee · 27/10/2004 18:17

thats the problem, people dont think before they speak sometimes!! i hope she improves soon!
no , havent tried almond oil. what properties has it, and where'd you buy it from?? anything is worth a try!

OP posts:
JuniperDewdrop · 27/10/2004 18:19

It's just from almonds and you can get it from chemists etc.. It isn't expensive. Olive oil works well too but doesn't smell as nice. I'm very interested in alternative treatments tbh, I use homeopathy a lot too.
does she itch every night?

sassybabee · 27/10/2004 19:23

not every night , but 6 out of 7 nights she does. i dont know if its just a habit, or real pain. she says it hurts her.
do any of these homeopathic remedies work? im a bit sceptical of them!

OP posts:
JuniperDewdrop · 27/10/2004 19:31

Yes they've worked wonders for our family. We go to a homeopath but there's a good online site. It takes a while to fill in the questionnaire as homeopathy deals with the whole person so they need to know allsorts.

So sorry to hear you dd suffers so much though

JuniperDewdrop · 27/10/2004 19:32

abc homeopathy

There's a mner who's a homeopath though I think? If you're interested you could maybe put a message asking for her to advise?

Spod · 27/10/2004 20:37

have you tried changing your GP to get a second opinion... i cant believe your dd would scratch her head for 7 years unless something was bothering her... it may be something that isnt obvious but doenst mean it isnt there. poor wee thing. cant advise on homeopathy... gloworms the lady to ask but i think she left mumsnet, not sure... do a search under her name, see if she has posted an email/website... she runs her own homeopathy shop

Angeliz · 27/10/2004 20:45

sassybabee, you've probably already done this but have you tried using the 'Simple' range of shampoos?
My dd was constantly itching her head and my mam kept checking her ALL THE TIME for nits and then someone on here recommended that and she's fine now.

prefernot · 27/10/2004 21:26

I was going to suggest it might be an allergy? Though I guess you've been there and done that as an obvious first port of call. When it's bad can YOU see anything? I'm just amazed at your GP saying 'there's nothing there'. If you can see something could you photograph it to show what it looks like? There's an outside chance it might be psychosomatic but even if it were then that still deserves proper treatment.

Poor you. Well, I was up with dd on and off all night with sickness and the flu. I was sitting reading 'Rainbowfish' for the 3rd time at 4am with my eyes hanging down to my chin ...

sassybabee · 28/10/2004 07:55

we have changed dr's 3 times, and still get the same response!
nothing comes up really on her head, just a patchy red spots which i dont know if it is down to the scratching or something else!!??
me , dd1,dd2,& ds all have a birth mark on the back of our heads. mine itches slightly sometimes, but not to the extent of dd's...not sure if thats anything to do with it. i hate seeing her in this pain.
and no angeliz we havent tried the simple range, maybe i should get some next time im shopping! nits did cross me mind as well. but head all clear!!!
thanxs for all the advice, you lot are great!

There's oilatum and olive oil shampoo too that may help? I think the body shop do an olive oil shampoo?

prefernot · 28/10/2004 14:07

In that case sassybabee, do you think it might be something internal that's making her head itch rather than a skin condition? I'm just thinking that for instance varicose veins make your legs itch madly and certain liver conditions make your skin itch too. If it's giving her this much bother someone surely must be able to think of something to help and if it were psychosomatic couldn't they put you onto a paediatric psychologist?

Joshuasmum · 03/11/2004 09:50

Hi sassybabee,

I have a friend with a 6 month old who suffers from red, itchy patches. She has also had poor responses form the medical profession and it remains undiagnosed although daddy has eczema (spelling?) so it could be that. Nothing seems to have helped, but she has recently had some success usine homeopathic treatments. Might be worth a try....

ssd · 03/11/2004 20:05

Prefernot, something you mentioned in your last post really interested me so sorry to you sassybabee for hijacking your thread!

It's just that my mum has been getting really itchy skin for ages now and it's very annoying for her.For some reason she seems to get it worse in the early evenings (she's in her late 70's).I just wondered if you knew what liver conditions caused itchy skin?
