Poor daytime sleep (and night time!)

My little one will be 13 weeks this week. We’re not in any particular routine as yet partly due to lockdown, winging it and having a three year old too. With my eldest I was in a routine pretty early on but he was also a shoddy sleeper.

Roughly, how long should a baby this age be going between naps? Our wake up time can vary, because my 3 year old wakes up early I try to wake the baby up at a similar time.

Let’s say we get up at 8am, we go downstairs, have breakfast, baby plays on play mat. He starts to grumble about 9am so I start to settle him around 8.50ish usually. He’ll always want a feed (comfort I know... and not ideal... I know...) eventually he’ll fall asleep in my arms and I can usually lay him down on the sofa, he’ll sleep no longer than 35 minutes. Previously he would wake up happy and go about an hour to the next minuscule nap. However, he’s waking up with his face screwed up and about to cry now so I know he’s needing more sleep!

I use white noise, doesn’t make much difference. He has frequent breastfeeds throughout the day.

He gets bathed at 6pm and fed straight after, usually sleeps about 7pm to 8pm ish. Then will wake and go straight back to sleep after another feed (not really a feed through, more for comfort) last night he went about 8.30-11pm to 1.30am which is good going and he was in his crib during these times. From 1.30am he was in my bed, wouldn’t settle in his crib. He slept on and off until 8am. Probably fussed for about 4/5 feeds/comfort feeds between these times.

I would love to help him sleep longer- through the day especially. Even if I put him to my breast when he wakes, he won’t go back to sleep. He tends to sleep slightly better when the tv is on as opposed to putting him in the bedroom during the day.

Does anyone have any tips? Is there anything I’m doing glaringly wrong here?

@Itsabloodybingthing I would highly recommend finding "takingcarababies" on Instagram (get it solely for this purpose if you don't have it). She is incredible for routines, wake windows, sleepy cues, nap environments etc. She also talks about getting in good nursing feeds during the day if longer night stretches are your goal ... she has it all organised into "highlights" so you can find your questions/answers easily. Honestly she has changed my life!
