sorry this is a bit late and not much use to you now but what we did was put her to bed late on friday and later still yesterday - 8.30. She woke up today at 7.30 as normal and so far so good although she seemed more tired at tea.

vicdubya · 31/10/2004 20:44

It's actually tomorrow that will be the mare because getting up at "5" this morning felt like 6 but tomorrow it will feel like 5, lol.

And DH back at work.

DS went for his naps & had meals at new time without any probs today, plus bed at new time too, so hoping he will be fooled....

Who am I kidding?!

Uhu · 01/11/2004 08:22

Thanks for this thread everyone because I have been suffering with my twin DSs (age 8 months). Recently, they have been waking between 4-5 am so you can imagine what happened on Sunday! I've decided not to go to work because I'm so tired.

The problem I'm finding is that when I try to keep them up later (they are usuall in bed by 8pm), they become very irritable and scream the place down. There is only so much one can take from 2 screaming babies! However, I will try to extend it out by 10 minutes every couple of days.

gscrym · 01/11/2004 09:00

I particularly hated this weekend as I was nightshift and got to work 13 hours instead of 12 - hurrah!
DS didn't notice the time change, he got up at his usual.

Furball · 01/11/2004 09:34

Well my prat of a Dh, forgot to change his alarm, so we were awoken by that at 5.30 this morning, then just got back to sleep when he'd accidently pressed snooze instead of the off button. GGGGrrrr. - God knows what would have been said if it had been me that had done it.

elliott · 01/11/2004 10:00

Hmm, well yesterday I decided to put them straight into the new time slot. Ds1 (nearly 3) has adjusted already - he had a really tiring day on Sat and was late to bed, and didn't wake up till 7am new time!
Ds2 is nearly one and more difficult - he's been waking around 6 anyway - and despite being on the new timetable all day yesteday with bed at 7pm new time he was awake at 5 today....I wonder how long it will take to adjust.....and then how do I get him to stop waking at 6....

prefernot · 01/11/2004 11:19

Oh elliott, I know, I know!! Dd was up at 6.30 yesterday (5.30 new time) and I'd hoped she'd be up at 6.30 today but she woke early as though her body clock was still in the old time zone so it was 5.45am. AGH!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope she gets back to normal tomorrow. I don't remember it being this much of a pain when the clocks changed last time ...

And I wish I knew a way to stop early waking. I accept it happens with some kids who are as bright as a button first thing but my dd's exhausted all morning until she goes for her nap but I still can't get her to sleep later than 6.30am

elliott · 01/11/2004 11:31

prefernot, the only hope I can give you is that we really seem to have sorted the mornings with ds1 (though we will need to see what the summer brings!) - he is nearly 3 so if I remember rightly you've got a year or so to go! We introduced a light with a timer several months ago and have been reinforcing/rewarding 'staying quiet until the light comes on'. Since we moved him to a big bed he is being fantastic at waiting for the light, then getting up and just playing happily in his room! Still two more years to go for ds2 then.....frustrating as he was always much better at sleeping longer as a small baby than ds1.

pabla · 01/11/2004 11:47

Older two have been ok but the baby has been up at 5.30 the last two mornings (and had to go to bed at 6pm last night - no way could he have held out for even 10 minutes more). It's going to be a fun week but at least the older ones are back at school!

prefernot · 01/11/2004 14:04

Urg ... how long does it take them to get back to 'normal'??? Everyone told me dd might sleep a bit later now the mornings are darker. If anything she's up earlier than she was through the summer which was often a decent 7.15am ...

ssd · 02/11/2004 11:05

I've just found this thread and it's such a relief to find others are awake before 6am!
I thought by now my oldest ds would maybe start sleeping to 7 but he's still awake at 6'ish...
and his little db is up before 6 too.
I was told by everyone that school and nursery would sort out their sleeping , but not so far....

And on Sunday all I got from friends and family was how nice it was to get an extra hour in bed!!!

Does anyone believe we'll get those days back, coz I'm beginning to wonder....

prefernot · 02/11/2004 14:01

How old are they ssd? IMO it seems to be once an early riser always an early riser until somewhere approaching puberty when you can't get them out of bed!

wallawallabingbang · 02/11/2004 14:40

DS (1) has woken up at 4-5am every day since the clock change arrrghghghghghghg

In my experience keeping up later doesnt help - he is now on the normal routine again ie bed at 7pm but still not helping

IM SHATTERED

prefernot · 02/11/2004 21:13

wwbb, no chance of getting him to go back to sleep for a bit?

WideWebWitch · 02/11/2004 22:26

It doesn't seem to have made much difference to us, oddly. So she's been waking up at 6-6.30am, which I can live with. Phew!

MrsMiaWallace · 02/11/2004 22:28

extra hour in bed ...my a**e, 4am in our house(tho cant complain really as she went at 5.15 night before!)

ssd · 03/11/2004 07:58

Prefernot,they are only 6 and 3....

I think what you said was true and they'll always be early risers...I keep telling them when they are teenagers they'll be woken up by ME at 6am!

The little one was up about 3 times to wee last night and was crying in his sleep (bad dreams?)a lot so I've had a crap night again, as well as the mandatory early morning

I love them to bits of course I just wish they would sleep all night through to 7,right now that would be better than winning the lottery!(well maybe not!)
